Solid Oak Coffee Table

It is so easy when considering purchasing new items of furniture for the home to give great thought and detail to the larger items for example a new suite, dining room table and chairs; the less obvious pieces of furniture like a solid oak coffee table are equally as important.

If you are decorating the living room you may have some idea as to what pieces of furniture you would like, obviously color and the design of the room will already have been decided.

Once you have finished all the decorating and laying of the new carpet, you're thoughts then will be on the furniture. Most people often think about the larger items of furniture first probably as these are the ones that dominate the room the most like the new suite/sofa for example.

It is so easy to forget the smaller items of furniture that when the room is finished are the pieces that are most used like the television stand or the all-important coffee table. The coffee table is a very important piece of furniture to hold magazines, papers or somewhere to put the glass of wine when relaxing in the evening with friends and family.

A solid oak coffee table is a beautiful piece of furniture that will enhance any living room adding the final finishing touches. Oak coffee tables are great because they are solid and sturdy and choosing a wooden table will work very well with most color schemes.

Most people after a few years will start to think about decorating the living room again simply to change the color scheme and make the room feel clean and fresh again. If you chose a solid oak coffee table for the living room, you have the advantage of knowing that whatever color scheme you choose again the coffee table will still look fantastic and blend with the new decor.

From jewel-bright reds to deep, dark purples, the plum palette is rich, gorgeous, and eye-catching, adding a sense of luxury to all interiors from the classic to the ultramodern.

If you yearn to use strong colors but are wary of the primary reds, the luscious plum palette will certainly find a place in your home. The plums are a complex family of muted reds, ranging from deep maroons which verge on brown, through crimson, dark fuchsia, and purplish reds to the redder shades of violet.

The names given to this glorious range of colors are a clue to their seductive appeal. If you want to conjure them up in your mind's eye, think of the scintillating crimson of claret or burgundy seen against the light, or imagine the dark, purplish bloom of grapes, bilberries, and damsons, and the dark crimson red of plums. The splendor of these gorgeous colors is also seen in semi-precious gemstones such as purple amethysts, and the reds of rubies and garnets. The plummy reds and purples are strong, rich and intense, but unlike the hotter, orange-reds such as scarlet, they are never flagrant or shrill. They bring warmth and richness into the home, but with great finesse and elegance. Where the primary reds must be controlled and balanced, these reds take their place in such an unassuming way that even the most faint-hearted colorist soon feels quite comfortable with them.

The plums are regal colors, traditionally associated with display and magnificence. They cry out for luxurious materials - brocades, velvets, and silks - glossy textures, gleaming antique woods, and gilded details. They are theatrical but tasteful, gorgeous but never vulgar, and incredibly easy to live with. Use them in bold, flat passages in a modern interior, or choose dusty colors and distressed paintwork for an aged look which is timeless.

In the Purple

The purplish plums combine easily with a wide range of colors. They work particularly well with any shade of yellow from bright lemon to earthy yellow ochers and antique golds. A particularly striking pairing combines damson with lime green. For more harmonious schemes, combine the purply shades with related colors such as blues and reds.

Used boldly and as solid areas of color, damson is grand without being overwhelming. It is ideal for rooms used for entertaining, a formal living room or drawing room, for example, or a dining room. If you shop around you may find good-quality, secondhand velvet curtains at a fraction of the cost of new ones. Hang them on gleaming brass rods with an elaborate finial, and tie them back with gold cord and big gold tassels, or use a fixed brass hook.

Use brocades and velvets for upholstery, trimming it with gold braid, fringes, and brass pins. The floor covering should be patterned - a rug or a wall-to-wall carpet with a small motif. Good color combinations are gold or yellow with touches of blue-green and gray.

In a darker or small room, use slightly lighter versions of these colors and choose patterned fabrics with a pale background. Try a traditional eighteenth-century French scenic wallpaper, a Victorian sprig design, or an elegant Regency stripe. A gilded over-the-mantel mirror, a brass fender and fireplace set, and brass or carved and gilded wood wall sconces will introduce a metallic gleam and suggest the right degree of opulence. Existing wall lights can be gilded with metallic gold paint.

If you prefer a relaxed and less formal look, use aging and distressing techniques combined with secondhand furniture and textiles to create the lived-in splendor of an old country house.

A striking bathroom can be constructed around a checkerboard of tiles in shiny, fruit-bright colors. Combine purple reds with hot reds, mauves, cool cobalt blues, dark green, bright yellow, and sky blue to produce a feast of color. A white washbasin, a plain unframed mirror, and a chrome towel rack will provide a utilitarian contrast.

Fruity and sensuous, damson is a lovely choice for bedroom schemes. It is pretty in an elegant way and makes a pleasant change from pastels. Provide relief with crisp white or cream, and introduce colors such as green, pink, and yellow in patterned textiles and wall coverings. Don't be afraid to combine patterns - stripes, florals, and checks can work very well together as long as there are two or three colors that provide a linking theme. A few items in the accent damson will hold the scheme together.

For home improvement on the cheap, paneling is the way to go. Paneling many not be as dependable as some home improvement materials, but it will certainly do the trick when budgets are a factor. Before you get started on your wall panel project, keep these factors in mind.

All about Wall Paneling

Why go paneling? Before even considering the cost benefits, consider the other upsides. Have you ever drywalled before? Unless you do it professionally, it is one of those jobs that people delve into and then curse the day the ever dreamed it up. How about wallpaper? Adhesive, measuring, lining things up - not a good time. Panel tiles are easy to work with and fast to boot.

The real thing that attracts people to paneling is of course the price. Paneling is by far the cheapest choice of all the wall repair or renovation options you have. There is a quality loss with paneling that cannot be denied, but you can do a lot to mitigate that if you take the time do it right.

Of course, the quality loss that comes with paneling can't be brushed aside so easily, especially because it is a tangible quality loss. Home inspectors will actually value your home for less when they discover panel tiles in your home, because they are not as sturdy as other kind of wall materials. That means money out of your pocket when you want to sell your home, plus it means scaring a lot of buyers out of the door.

If you're looking for a paneling alternative that isn't as costly or nightmarishly complicated as drywalling, consider tiling. This won't work in every room, of course, but you can tile your entire bathroom wall with inexpensive tiles that will perk it up without installing paneling.

If you already have paneling, or if you want to go with it despite the drawbacks, don't make a shaky situation worse by doing a sloppy job. Make sure your panels look great by taking time with the spacing and hanging. Use paint to jazz them up, keep them clean at all times, and repair any holes or dents immediately by slapping up a new panel. This will mitigate some of the value lost to using panels on your walls. The best solution, however, is to make paneling a short term solution to your problem and planning to address it with drywalling further down the line.

Do you realize that you spend a full one-third of your life in bed? That’s a lot of time, and knowing that, wouldn’t it make sense to make sure that you’re as comfortable as possible while you’re there? We’ve all slept on scratchy sheets or those that are so thin you can almost see through them. But a good night’s rest requires a certain level of comfort that simply can’t be had with poor quality bed sheets.

Is it time for you to buy new ones?

Size Matters

If you’re more than twenty years old, you’ll remember when beds only came in standard sizes. You likely had a twin, double, queen or king. But with today’s mattress improvements, you could have a king sized bed, but the standard king sized sheets may not necessarily fit it. Why? Because mattress manufacturers have made vast improvements to mattresses including things like pillow tucks and extra thickness.

Knowing this, you will have to take care when buying your bed sheets, otherwise you might have sheets that won’t quite wrap around the edges, or do, but continually slip off.

Each package of sheets will provide the exact measurements of the sheets, so it’s important for you to pay attention to them. Measure your mattress before you go shopping so that you will be prepared to make a decision. In other words, if you have a queen-sized bed that has a pillow tuck on both sides of the mattress, you may have to buy king sized sheets!

Thread Count

Have you ever had the privilege of sinking into a soft bed and wondering how in the world it was so comfortable? Was it a new kind of fabric softener? A perfectly worn in mattress? In all likelihood, it was the sheets!

The thread count is what will determine just how soft your sheets are—the higher the thread count, the more comfortable your sheets will be. Sometimes called the TPI, this factor measures how many threads are used per every square inch of fabric. They can range anywhere from about 150 all the way up into the thousands. In general, you should always avoid any sheets that have a lower count than 200 because they won’t feel good on your skin, but scratchy and uncomfortable. If you buy sheets with a thread count of over 250, you should have a pretty good night’s sleep.

Material

The type of fabric that you select when buying your sheets will make a huge impact on your comfort level. And with so many materials available, you should think hard about what type of sleeping experience you desire. The most popular choices are cotton, flannel, and silks and satins.

Cotton is by far the most popular because it is snuggly in the winter and cool in the summer (although they have to be warmed up in the winter first). There’s just something about sinking into a bed with high quality cotton sheets! In addition to being comfortable, manufacturers tend to produce them in more styles and colors (than other sheet types) to keep up with the consumer demand.

A winter just isn’t complete without warm flannel sheets. Most people exclusively use flannel sheets in the cold months, because they will become “sweaty” in hot ones. In addition, many manufacturers have begun to produce flannel comforters and blankets to match the patterns on the sheets.

Finally, a silk or satin pair of sheets is considered the ultimate in luxury. They are silky soft and will keep you from sweating in the summer. You can literally slide into bed and if you have a satin or silk pillow case, lay your head in pure luxury. The only downside to satin and silk sheets is that they tend to slide off of the bed if not fitted properly.

What about you? Are you a cotton person or silk? Do you want a frivolous thread count, or will 250 do? Think about your options carefully before you shop for bed sheets and then enjoy your choice!

Before you start painting your bedroom with your favorite color, you first need to know that there rules in painting your bedroom. Since this is your private retreat and is a part of the house that is least visited by other people, you can experiment and be creative about the decoration as well as the wall color. However, you should also follow the three basic rules in choosing the color for your room.

1. The first rule is the color family rule. For example, if you want to paint your room with the color blue, you should consider having a decoration inside your bedroom that will also have the shade of blue. This is called monochromatic schemes that is simple to do and very popular for most people. So, if you like a particular color for your bedroom wall, you should also get a shade of that color in as your lampshade color, your bed sheet color and also your picture frame color.

2. The second rule is the next door neighbor color rule. If you are familiar with the color wheel, you will have an idea on what kinds of color you should put in your bedroom. For example, if you like red, then the colors next to it in the color wheel will prove to be great combinations. If you choose red then you should also use the colors orange and violet. If you choose blue, then the colors green and violet can prove to be a great combination and so on. This color scheme is called the analogous color scheme.

3. The third rule is the Ying and Yang rule. Chinese beliefs suggest that you should have adequate Yin and Yang in your house. This means that there should be opposites of everything and this will include the colors. And, this proves to be true. It can create a harmonious environment that you will truly love. Most people love the basic black and white combination. You can experiment with different dark and light shades of colors and determine which can provide you with a great looking bedroom.

These are the three basic rules in providing a comfortable and relaxing environment in your bedroom. Be creative and you will definitely have different ideas on what colors you should paint your bedroom with.

We would have heard of common references like quilt, comforter, duvet, pillowcases and many more. Some terms are new to us and we might not want to show that we are not up to date with new product introduction to the vendors. I myself have got confused with what does it mean and what is the purpose of the product that comes along with my mattresses purchase. Here is an opportunity for you to compare and understand these different terminologies.

A Duvet cover is a like a pillowcase but it covers the comforter. Its usage is mainly to prevent the comforter from stains. A Bed skirt is the one that covers the complete cot like a box hanging from the edges till the surface. This provides a secret storage space under your bed and keeps the objects away from sight. A Sham is the decorative cover for the pillow it comes when you buy your pillow. You can cover it with a pillow cover of your choice. A Fitted Sheet keeps your mattress tight with the cot. A Duvet is another terminology for a comforter.

Foam Pillow is made of foam cotton and down pillow is shaped to fit your position of head. A feather bed is the mattress that is filled with down or sometimes feathers. The foam bed is filled with foam cottons. There is air bed which is made by inflating the product to form a mattress using an air pump. A water bed is fun for few people, where water is filled in to the material. Air or Water mattress requires huge maintenance and care. Bed Liners are protective sheeting over water mattress to prevent water leak in some case. They are made up of good plastic. A frame is the one where we put in the mattress in a position to sleep. These frames come along with the cot we order. Hope you enjoyed knowing few terms here.

You’re searching for unique and beautiful decorations for your child’s bedroom. You’ve visited countless stores to view the largest possible selection, poured through children’s and parenting magazines to make sure your up to date on the latest styles, spent hours on the phone trying to find that unique child’s room accessory that will complete your child’s bedroom. But you didn’t have to spend all that time and energy! Shopping for children’s bedding, furniture and room décor is now easier and more delightful than ever. The secret? Shopping online! If you are still unconvinced, here are 5 compelling reasons why shopping online for all your children’s room décor needs is easier, cheaper and more fun than shopping in brick and mortar stores:

1. More selection than any one store can hold –
Shopping online offers you virtually unlimited selection. A brick and mortar store can only hold so many samples for display. And you can move from store to store with a simple click. Don’t know how to find a reputable online store? Simply type in what you are searching for into any search engine and volumes of online store options are instantly at your fingertips.

2. Better pictures give you better viewing of products -
Online companies make their business by selling with their pictures. Their photos are generally better and higher quality than print catalogs. Online companies also typically offer you views of products at various angles. In a brick and mortar store, space is limited so you will often be shopping by catalog anyway if you prefer a style or color that is not on display.

3. Saves you time and energy – If you are a new parent or soon-to-be new parent, these are the most precious commodities to you right now! Instead of spending hours driving from store to store, dealing with harried salespeople, waiting in lines, asking questions, try browsing a children’s bedding and furniture store online. You can accomplish your shopping in one tenth the time and effort and also view all available color and style options instantly.

4. Buying online is often cheaper – Online stores offering children’s room décor are often able to offer designer quality products at less cost to you. Why? They have less overhead costs without a storefront, less salespeople to pay salaries to, less utilities to pay. These savings are passed along to you. Not to mention all the hidden savings to you when you shop online: gas to drive from store to store, meals and snacks often accompanied by shopping trips, paying babysitters or taking time off from work to shop.

5. Less buying and delivery hassle – You’ve found the perfect children’s furniture to fit your child’s room décor. Now all you have to do is enter in some information and click. No waiting in a long line for the next available salesperson. No waiting for someone to check on delivery dates and times. Purchasing online eliminates all that hassle by allowing you to pay securely and informing you of shipping times and cost right up front.

So start building your child’s ideal bedroom right now without leaving your seat!

A duvet, known in many countries as a quilt, is a thin yielding blanket with a soft filling inside. It's been there from bygone days serving the purpose of either a bed softener or a blanket in many parts of the world. Special duvet covers to battle the dust-mites. Asthma sufferers or allergy prone sufferers have a hard time keeping the dust-mites in check. Dust-mites are microscopic arachnids which thrive on dust especially in the down fillings of pillows and quilts. They comprise of almost 80% of the dust around the house!

Special Allergen blocking pillow covers and duvet-covers give the allergy sufferers a nightmare-free sleep due to its special tight weave of the fabric. Even after frequent washing the fabric remains soft and snug trapping the allergens and preventing breakouts.

Oiling Your Ceiling Fan

Most ceiling fan manufacturers claim their fans will never require oil.
Most of these fans can operate for many years with no added
lubrication. However, depending on the life and age of the fan, motors
may ultimately require to be oiled whether they are designed for it or not.

Some fans are made with an "oil-bath" lubrication system, designed to be
oiled regularly to keep the bearings lubricated. Most motors made these
days have "sealed bearings" they are lubricated when manufactured and
not designed to require oil. However over time, with dirt and the heat
from the motor etc, these sealed bearings eventually get dirty or dry
and require to be cleaned and re-lubricated. If your fan is operating
fine I wouldnt worry about it. However if it is running slow, the blades
do not coast freely by hand, or it makes mechanical noise, it may need oil.

Certain fans, such as Hunter Originals and other older models, are
designed to be oiled regularly, and not doing so could result in
premature bearing wear. Also, even a fan not designed to be oiled, if
the blades turn stiffly or do not coast, and yet the fan still runs
properly, the added load on the motor could be causing it to overheat
and wear prematurely. Better get some oil.

instructions on when and how to oil your ceiling fan.

So you’ve already found the perfect shower curtain for your bathroom and a wonderful wall paint, but there’s still something missing. Maybe you just need some artwork for you bathroom to finish off your look.

The question is, what artwork should you buy for your bathroom? Most likely, you are not going to want your most prized piece of artwork to decorate your bathroom. On the other hand... many of your guests are going see your bathroom -- why not surprise them with a beautiful piece of artwork? Besides, something beautiful will make you happy, too.

If you already have the piece of artwork you want to display in your bathroom, make sure that you choose colors for the rest of your bathroom décor that will compliment that particular piece of artwork. Otherwise, make sure you choose a piece of artwork that will work with what you already have, not against it.

When selecting artwork for your bathroom walls, be sure to keep in mind the color scheme that already exists in that room. It would be a great pity for your pictures to clash with the tiles, paint, or wallpaper.

If your bathroom is monochromatic (painted only in one color and variations of that color), you are going to want to get a painting of similar tone and color. You certainly don’t want to use a bright piece of artwork that will break up the continuity that you have already established with that one color.

When two colors that are complimentary or opposites on the color wheel are used, one color is usually subdued and used in the larger area, while the other one is more intense and is used as an accent. Decorate this kind of bathroom with artwork whose dominant color is the same as the less dominant one in the bathroom. Be careful! If you are using complementary colors, avoid using both of them in equal intensity!

Although it may seem obvious, it is important to mention that whatever artwork you choose, you want it to match. Although you want a beautiful piece of artwork, you don’t want it to stand out like a sore thumb in the bathroom. The artwork is there to accent the bathroom, usually not the other way around.

Can You Wash a Goose Down Duvet?

If you're wondering if you can wash your goose down duvet yourself, the answer is yes. It's risky, but you can do it. To be clear, we're talking about the actual comforter that is made of goose down. Dry cleaning is very costly and you end up with no comforter for at least a few days, so if you can do it yourself you might as well. Don't wash your goose down duvet very often though since the fewer times it is washed, the longer it will last. To simply freshen rather than wash, you can take the cover off and simply hang it outside. It is recommended that you dry clean your goose down about once every three to five years.

You may be able to wash a twin or possibly full sized goose down duvet in your home washing machine, but if you have a queen or king you should go to a laundry mat and use one of their large washing machines & dryers.

Washing

Use a lot of cold water. Do not use any fabric softener and very little laundry detergent. If the comforter starts to baloon up, you need more water. It should look soaked and shrunken. You may need to do several wash cycles to get it to look like this.

Drying

Dry on cold air. An industrial sized dryer at a laundry mat will work the best. Add a tennis ball or some sort of solid ring to help break up the down while drying. It's important for the comforter to be 100% dry, or it it will smell. Make sure to pull the comforter out and rearrange it to expose the wet parts. You can dry it in the dryer for a half hour to an hour and air dry it the rest of the way. It may take up to 24 hours of air drying before it's ready to be back on your bed. All areas should be totally dry.

Other ways to keep your goose down looking fresh:

1. Shake it out everyday to redistribute the down and allow for air to move through.
2. Invest in a good comforter cover to help protect your comforter from stains and reasons to need to wash it.
3. If you need to store your goose down comforter, use a breathable bag. A plastic bag will encourage mold and mildew growth.
4. If you get something on it, clean it right away with cold water and make sure you allow it to fully dry.

Traditional Asian designs have now been modified and "modernized" to adapt to present times, without deviating from the principle or purpose for which it was created. That is why Asian designs are gaining popularity in the West. Here are some Asian bedroom designs that you can incorporate in your own bedroom.

A low Japanese platform bed is one Asian item that has invaded the Western bedroom. With white cotton sheets and some colored pillows to highlight the dark wood, this creates a spa-like ambiance that is truly bliss. Or if you like, you can use a four-poster or canopy bed and drape them with sheer cloth. In the past, these cloths were used to keep mosquitoes and other insects out. When drawn back, the fabric flows in soft romantic ruffles to frame the bed. There are also sturdy bamboo beds and tatami mats that you can use in your bedroom. Add some throw pillows with Indian prints for texture and color.

Furniture is rather simple and functional. Designs are usually linear and classy. Wooden cabinets are usually built with straight lines and are painted with a natural or dark finish. Chests provide for storage in an Asian-inspired room. Woven baskets and boxes are also interesting pieces for additional storage. These items also perform dual functions. So you see a low chest that doubles as a display cabinet, or a dresser with several pull-out drawers for more storage. As for seating, a wood chair or two may be found inside an Asian bedroom. But quite more often, seating is done on the floor. That is why it is not uncommon to see printed rugs or bamboo mats and cushions lying on the floor.

Other accessories may be added to the room, like brass mirrors, jars, or paintings. To highlight your Asian pieces, paint the walls with a contrasting color. But be careful so as not to make the colors clash. The shades must still complement each other. As for the flooring, wood is the most popular choice. You do not need to use natural wood, as this is rather expensive and difficult to install. Look for laminate flooring designs and wood tiles that are Asian-looking. You can also use cork or bamboo tiles. Recessed lights complete the simple look of the room. However, you can also use floor lamps or hanging lamps that give soft lighting.

Home decorating can be challenging enough as it is, until you add a tight budget to the mix! Many wonder how they can learn to decorate on a budget, and if it's possible. Here are the top three budget decorating problems, and the solutions!

Problem 1:

Q. Can I decorate my home on a budget without making it look cheap or tacky? I can't afford to do much, but I want a nice home just as much as the next person!

A. Absolutely. Budget does NOT mean cheap! It means you need to take some steps to ensure you aren't putting your family's financial well being on the line while you decorate your home. It means making wise decisions, and following a plan. And it means using creativity and elbow grease, not bucks! We've all seen those home decorating tv shows and the miracles they can do on $1000 a room. What if you could do a whole room like that for $100. $50? Sounding better, huh?

Problem 2:

Q. I am not artistic or creative. I can't see how I can do this without a lot of money.

A. EVERYONE has creativity within them. You only need to find out why you've been hiding it so long. First of all, there are a lot of great resources out there for those decorating on a budget. Check out your library for home decorating books, walk through model homes with a notebook, and visit websites like The Budget Decorator for endless decorating ideas. Once you get inspired by others ideas, you will be surprised at how freely your own start to flow. Keep in mind that few decorating projects can't be undone, so don't be afraid to try new things, especially when all your projects are done using very little cash!

Problem 3:

Q. I don't know where to get started, so nothing ever changes. I just feel overwhelmed at the prospect of decorating and am afraid to move forward.

A. You need help and you need confidence! First, start by picking a small room to decorate first...a powder room, for instance. Choose a theme for the room, such as "Country Style Blue and Yellow Bath". Your theme gives you a "mission statement" and allows you to make decisions based upon it. You will know that everything you choose for the room needs to fit within your theme. This will save you a lot of money and time in the long run, and help you to build skills and confidence. Make a plan, and start with the walls. They have the biggest impact in the shortest time. Once you see the difference one small change can make, you will be on your way!

Exotic plants

Are you getting bored with your house? Are you getting tired of seeing the same plants over and over? Do you want an easy and quick way to spice things up? If so, you should consider using exotic plants to change the look and feel of your house. After all, an exotic plant or a vase of ornamental exotic flowers is a heck of a lot cheaper than new furniture and less time consuming than painting the walls a vibrant new color. This article highlights some of the best exotic plants you can use in your home.

Bird of Paradise

There are few exotic plants more impressive than the bird of paradise. A native of South Africa (where it is called the crane plant), the bird of paradise can now be found all over the world, a result of its obvious beauty. Standing as much as two meters tall, the bird of paradise is commonly used for ornamental purposes. The bird of paradise was given its name because of its similarity to the bird species of the same name; the bird of paradise’s fan shaped stems are said to resemble the head and beak of a bird.

Hawaiian flowers

As with anything to do with Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian flowers are very popular at the moment. Hawaiian flowers are especially good if you are trying to give your house a tropical feel, and are sure to be the perfect exotic plant to give your flower arrangement a carefree, summery look. And there are few plants more exotic and unique than a Hawaiian lava plant, grown on the Big Island right on the lava stone. The main kinds of lava plants you want to look for are bromeliad and anthurium lava plants. Each of these lava plants is vibrantly colored. The colourful middle stem of the bromeliad is surrounded by a circle of fronds. And most anthurium plants have a heart shaped flower that is so bright it looks like glossy paint. Don’t settle for roses and tulips – they have been done to death. What could be more romantic and memorable than a heart shaped potted anthurium plant?

Orchids

Orchids are the most popular exotic plants. The reason for this is many people think they are simply the most beautiful exotic plant in the world. Orchids are also surprisingly easy to grow, and the blooms of live plants last for weeks or even months. Even though orchids are extremely popular, there are so many different kinds of orchids, you can easily pick orchids as your exotic plants without too much fear that you are just following the crowd. Indeed, there are literally thousands upon thousands of different varieties of flowering orchids.

Exotic flowers are an easy way to make an impressive and unique design statement in your home. Instead of getting the same kinds of plants from the same places, it’s time to branch out into exotic plants and shake up your routine! Turn your drab room around with a bird of paradise, Hawaiian lava plant or beautiful orchid. Or even get creative and mix all three of these exotic plants.

House Mold Symptoms

Mold is stealth and will slowly creep into your home and create nuances of havoc with your family's health.

The symptoms that mold produces in your home are very subtle. The huge symptoms of totally bed ridden health problems come after long, continuous exposure. In fact, as your health slowly declines, you won't even notice that you aren't as healthy as you used to be.

Mold, fungus, and mildew are all practically the same. They are formed by airborne microscopic spores that attach themselves to a nice moist food source. Do you have drywall construction, wall paper, wood frame, carpet, humid bathrooms, a basement, an attic? If you said yes, then read on because you need to be aware of the symptoms of mold exposure so that you know when it is time to take massive action.

Mold feeds on cellulose, wood based, organic material. It can feed on house dust! It can feed on the paper covering of drywall! Mold will feed on any fabric, anything organic, and many of the items that are in your home and items that comprise your home.

Mold is a single cell organism produced by spores. When these single cells group together and reproduce, you will notice a mold spot somewhere. That means there are thousands of cells. These mold colonies are what are big enough for us to see. They produce millions of spores that float on any air stream throughout the house.

The reason mold within your house is an issue is because it is a sealed environment. The mold spores aren't blown away out of your home. They are spread throughout your home and continue growing and reproducing. Because your home is well insulated from the outside, it is also well insulated from the inside. These mold spores can't escape and will eventually increase their population large enough to effect your living conditions and health. Quite literally a population explosion!

Have you ever noticed that as autumn ends that your yard's grass becomes dormant and then in the spring after some sunshine and rain it begins to thrive again?

Mold will go dormant as well. So, if you had a leak in your bathroom, fixed it, and then cleaned up the mold, you probably will still have mold colonies within the walls or the floor. The reason is the mold will go dormant due to the moisture being cut off, but it won't die!

Should there be more leakage, or should there be adequate humidity, the mold will begin to thrive again. So in essence, the mold will continue to impact your home even after you've cleaned up the colony that is showing. It will continue to effect you when you have cut off its water supply.

If you keep cleaning up the mold and you still keep getting symptoms, then what can be done?

First, clean up the mold you can see. Find helpful tips by reading the top 10 mold and mildew solutions available above. Second, take a look at the typical house mold symptoms:

Throat frequently irritated.
Sinus headaches, sinus pressure, you can feel the goo.

If you work in the hospitality industry, the supplies and amenities you offer very likely become mundane objects to you, right along with the toilet paper purchased in bulk and the creamer for the employee lounge. Whether you realize it or not, hotel guests pay attention to the small things, especially if other aspects of their trip are less than spectacular.

Many things about a guest's vacation or business trip, from weather and planned activities to traffic and the quality of the food they eat, are out of your control as a host. However, the quality of their experience at your hotel, from the shampoo to the bed linens, is under your control to a certain extent. The toiletries and amenities that you furnish your guest rooms with matter as they speak to the ambiance of the hotel and the experience you want your guest to have.

Bed Linens

Admittedly, most people, whether at home or away, pay little or no attention to the sheets or pillow cases on their bed, never mind the vast array of other bed linens. Most people don't know what a duvet is never mind the difference between a bedspread and a duvet cover. For the most part, however, if the bed is made and has a clean comforter or bedspread on it, no further attention is paid to the bed.

It is assumed that the sheets and pillow cases underneath are clean, too. However, some people notice the colors and softness of the bed linens, realizing that thread bare sheets should not be in a pricey hotel and, conversely, a duvet cover, decorative pillows and luxurious sheets would be out of place in a road side motel or budget inn.

Toiletries

Once upon a time, hotel supplies offered included plastic toothbrushes, single-edge disposable razors and plastic combs as "extras" and standard toiletries were bar soap and coordinating gooey shampoo and conditioner. Today hotels offer everything from the standard bar soap and shampoo to leave in conditioner and shower caps. Many also offer luxury body lotions infused with Shea butter and heavenly scented body washes. If a guest has forgotten a standard item such shaving cream, many hotels carry a stock of it, available on request.

Overlooked Amenities

When you think about amenities in a hotel room, you typically think of cable television, a phone you can use to make local calls for free and a pool. However, hotels and the rooms in them offer a variety of amenities often overlooked and under appreciated. For example, a sturdy ice bucket, in-room coffee service with strong coffee as well as complimentary cream and sugar, a sturdy luggage rack and hair dryers are often overlooked items that can turn a hotel stay around.

If your guests need ice for a cooler, a sturdy ice bucket is essential to accomplishing this task with ease. If your guests typically wake up to coffee, having good coffee as part of in-room coffee service will be noticed and appreciated. People notice more details today than they ever have before and they're conscious of what they are getting for their dollar.

To be competitive in the hospitality industry, taking into account what your guests expect, and what you furnish, is essential. However, guest expectations must be balanced against your budget. When you're the owner of a hotel, or the supply buyer, buying quality hotel supplies is not only a great idea, it's a necessity in order to grow the business and please your guests. When you're able to do this, everybody wins as your guests get great amenities and you stay under budget.

There's nothing like Tuscan colors to revamp your quiescent living space. Not only do they add warmth, but also help you recreate the magic of nature instantly inside your home. And when they come together with an assortment of textures, sparks fly like never before.

United Colors Of Nature

Colors form an inextricable part of the vast exotic landscape of Tuscany. This fabulous range includes warm, earthy tones like browns and terracotta. But the Tuscany color palette is not defined by cream, rusty red, sage green and dull gold alone. In fact, homeowners looking for some drama and excitement can make a splash with more vivid shades like burgundy, olive green, yellow gold and dark brown.

Unleash The Magic

Paint the town red with burnt orange, copper and deeper tones on countertops, cookware, planters and Mediterranean style pot racks. Pottery and art work in the same dramatic shade more than play to the gallery.

Let your neighbors go green with envy when they see olive green and sage causing a sensation. Iridescent Mediterranean blues bring a sparkle to your eyes. Golden yellow soaks the place with a warm glow. It's hard to believe that with just a few deft strokes you can capture the iconic essence of the simply hypnotic landscape.

Timeless Appeal

Colors in Tuscan homes have a weathered, aged look that helps them earn a stronger cachet. But they come into their own when they're combined with a plethora of intricate textures. Watch them sizzle and sparkle when these colors merge with stone, tile, aged wood, iron and copper. It doesn't take that long to make that much-desired trip to Tuscany, at least in the labyrinths of your mind.

Are you ready to gift-wrap your home in a cloak of quixotic mystery?

Duvets, along with the accompanying duvet covers, weren't always understood. In 1749, Thomas Nugent, an English travel-writer passing through Westphalia, remarked: "There is one thing very particular to them, that they do not cover themselves with bed-cloths, but lay one feather-bed over, and another under. This is comfortable enough in winter, but how they can bear their feather-beds over them in summer, as is generally practiced, I cannot conceive."

Of course, Thomas Nugent couldn't possibly fathom that, 259 years later, most Americans would be living in homes with central air conditioning and large overhead fans to keep them cool during the summer months, even loaded down with several plush layers of comfort. Now, selecting a duvet covers for down comforters is more a matter of taste than serious deliberation.

Materials and brand names range for duvet covers, but you'll definitely want to look for one of high quality. After all, one of the reasons to purchase a duvet cover is to protect yourself from protruding feathers that can poke and annoy you all night like. The higher the thread count, the less chance you'll have of feathers stabbing you in the night.

Another reason is to protect your down comforter from dust, dirt, allergens and grease, so you'll want a machine washable, durable material. Thirdly, you'll want to find a complementary style for your bedroom so you'll need to decide upon the best style, color and mood to represent you. Lastly, you'll need a comfortable material that will rest softly against your skin, lulling you to sleep at night.

Often, duvet covers come in two different fabrics woven together; one for the top that perhaps offers more aesthetic sheen or texture, and one for the bottom, with a soft, comfortable underlying fabric. You can find a horse or hounds-tooth fabric, with brick print piping, that reverses to a saddle micro-suede or you can find 100% cotton, toile patterned luxury bedding with felicity fabric on one side and willow striped fabric on the other side. Woven plaid chenille jacquard is considered a popular, high-quality, contemporary design as well. Many people go with preshrunk, superior grade covers made of 55% linen and 45% cotton that are machine washable.

One potential pitfall of duvet covers is that people assume the cover will protect their down comforters from all dander, contaminants, allergens and bacteria, which is simply not true. One survey found that people, on average, washed their covers only once every 10 years!

Scientists were horrified with how filthy people's beds were. They recommend washing duvets at 40 degrees at least every three to six months, which will lower bacteria by 55% and decrease dust mite and cat allergens to zero. Pillows should be cleaned once every two months, they add.

How to Install Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tiles, kiln-fired clay items, have now become a popular flooring option, due to its features such as durability and ability to resist fading, staining, scratches, and other chemical and thermal reactions. Installing ceramic tile is a skilled combination of art and science. It can be easily installed by anyone with the help of appropriate tools and installation brochures provided by manufacturers. Among the basic tools required for installing ceramic tiles are tape measure, hammer, chalk line, fiber glass tape, rubber gloves, tile nippers, dust mask, safety glasses, tile cutter, and marking pencil.

Though installation of ceramic tile is not a complicated task, it does involve some detailed steps such as preparing tile surface, laying out the wall, applying adhesive or mortar, setting tile, and caulking. Ceramic tile can be installed on any surface such as drywall, plaster, cement block, and even in existing ceramic tile. The surface for the tiles should be flat, smooth, and free of dust and debris. Additionally, if there is any loose paint or crack on the surface, it should be scraped off and patched with some water-proof substance.

Laying out the wall is perhaps the most important step in the installation process. It includes determining the level line, planning starting point, and checking whether any irregularity has been caused by fixtures like kitchen cabinets and tubs. The next step is to evenly apply ceramic wall adhesive on the surface using a notch trowel. Pro-mastic and pro-flex platinum are the most commonly used adhesives for ceramic tiles.

After having applied the adhesives, carefully place the tiles one by one on the surface. Equipments such as tile spacers can be used to give adequate space between the tiles. Sometimes, for fixing tiles on the edges cutting may be required. A masonry drill can be used for the cutting purposes. For making curved cuts, micro cutter or wet saw can be used.

Before allowing the tiles to settle, they should be leveled using a hammer. When tiles are settled, fill in the gap between the tiles with grout. Seal all grout joint to avoid grout porosity. The final step in ceramic tile installation process is caulking. This is primarily done to prevent water from seeping into bathtub edges or corners of the wall.

This is a fun project as well as a great home interior decorating idea. A beautiful Wall Mural easily transforms the entire look and feel of a room. Your kitchen or dining room suddenly becomes an Italian al fresco eatery. Your daughter's bedroom is at once a magical fairy garden, while your son's room becomes an exciting safari adventure, complete with Bengal Tigers. Sunset in the Grand Canyon is an awe-inspiring backdrop in the family room. The possibilities are endless. The choices can be a bit daunting while you are still in the selection phase of purchasing your Wall Mural. So, before you commit to a permanent look in your designated room, try this temporary project.

Once you have narrowed your Wall Mural selection to one or two, print photos of them from your computer. Even a small picture is adequate. The idea is to be able to see the main colors in the Wall Mural, and not so much the fine details of the subject matter. Try to keep it as basic as possible by identifying the five or six most prominent colors in the Wall Mural. Once your have identified the colors, go to the local craft store and locate the acrylic paint section. There are usually 2 fluid ounce size bottles that often sell for less than a dollar each. With your Wall Mural photo at hand, match the five or six prominent colors with the corresponding acrylic paint. You may also want to purchase a bottle of clear matte varnish. This can be mixed in with the paints to extend the colors (mix one quarter varnish with three quarters acrylic paint). Lastly, you'll need some foam paint brushes, which are around a quarter to fifty cents a piece. If you like you can cut up a clean sponge at home, as this also works well for paint application.

Choose the largest stretcher canvas you can buy. 36" x 48" works well and generally costs around fifty dollars on sale. There are even larger ones if you so choose, but they can be costly. Other alternatives to a pre-stretched canvas that are less costly and just as effective include plywood and heavy duty cardboard. You might even have some of these choice items right in your own garage, attic, basement, or storage unit. (This is also a great way to recycle.)

Now you are ready to begin. Remember to protect your floors with old newspapers or sheets. Using your Wall Mural picture as a guide, apply the colors to your canvas in the same general areas as depicted in the Wall Mural. You are now actually creating your very own free-style mini modern art version of your Wall Mural. It's great to go a little crazy with your painting as you really cannot make a mistake. Acrylics are very easy to use as you will see. If you accidentally mix your colors and produce an unwanted hue, simply let the painting dry for a few hours and then paint over the offending color. Once you are satisfied with the color placement, your artwork is finished. Don't forget to sign and date your painting.

When the painting is dry and ready for hanging, you can mount it on the wall where you eventually want your permanent Wall Mural. This will give you a colorful focal point to help with room décor and furniture arrangement. After your real Wall Mural is in place, you can proudly display your mini free-style version on an adjacent wall. The colors and primitive form will serve to compliment your majestic Wall Mural.

Enjoy yourself with this fun, cool, easy, and inexpensive home interior decorating idea.

How to Make Roman Shades

Roman shades are a simple and elegant window treatment to block the sun or prying neighbors. Nicer than plain plastic shades, but less expensive than ornate window shades, Roman shades provide the perfect start to a beginning home decorator.

Roman shades can be purchased from home improvement or department stores, or they can be custom made by in interior designer. The cheapest way to decorate your home with Roman shades is to make them yourself. Get ready to refresh your math skills!

To make Roman shades, first measure the window you’d like to put them in. Measure the height and width of the window from inside its frame. Or, if you want the shade to cover more than the window, measure the height and width of the surface the shade will cover. Your shade will probably need to be between 45 and 54 inches wide.

Before you shop for your fabric, you’ll need to calculate the number of dowels and the amount of fabric you’ll need. To figure out how many dowels you will need, divide the window height by six to nine inches, which will be the space between each dowel fold. You’ll need to find a number that goes evenly into your window height. For example, if your window height is 64 inches, divide by six. You’ll then need eight dowels for eight pleats. Each dowel needs 1.5 inches, so multiplied by eight, you’ll need an extra 12 inches of fabric. You’ll also need an extra six inches of fabric to mount the shade, meaning you’ll need 18 extra inches for this example. Add this to your window height to get your final height. Add two inches of fabric to your window width. Now you have the size of the fabric you need. Whew!

Next, the fun part: selecting the fabric of your shade. Shades without busy patterns are the easiest to work with because you won’t need to make sure the pattern blends seamlessly with each fold. If your window gets southern light, consider picking a near-shear fabric. This will produce a warm, soothing light in your room. Take a picture or your room, fabric swatches of your furniture, and a paint sample of your room when you shop. You don’t want to finish making your Roman shade to discover it clashes with the rest of your room!

While you are out buying your fabric, buy the rest of your supplies:

Drapery-lining fabric. You’ll need an extra 0.25 inches to cover the mounting board.

Blind cord

Window cleat

Quarter-inch diameter window dowels, 0.25 inches smaller than the window width

A wooden mounting board, 0.25 inches smaller than the window width that’s 1x2 inches.

Half-inch diameter shade rings

Screw eyes

Staple gun

Chalk or air-soluble marker

Yardstick

The easiest way to make a shade uses lots of pictures and few words. Find instructions at a home improvement store or for free online to make your own Roman shade. Find patterns that make the type of Roman shade you want, whether it is flat, pleated, or with a sunburst. You’ll probably need a sewing machine to make the Roman shade quickly, especially to attach the lining to the fabric. With patience you can make your own Roman shade.

A Duvet is a What?

The word "duvet" is kind of a strange word. Not something we use in our everyday language. It could be a toy, a piece of furniture, sexual device; but it is none of these.

A duvet is the second item you should buy after purchasing your down comforter. Down comforters are white because you are supposed to purchase a duvet to cover them. Down comforters are not meant to be used without a duvet cover. The duvet cover protects the comforter from getting dirty, and from losing its fill.

Although by nature we like our surroundings to be clean and tidy, cleaning your comforter is its worst enemy. A down comforter is constructed of feathers and down. Even though it would be dry cleaned, all that tossing and turning binds up the comforter feathers and down, and it becomes less lofty. The loft is what keeps you warm. The higher the fill power, the lighter, fluffier and warmer the down is.

The wonderful thing about buying a duvet is that when you are tired of one style, you can buy a different one for a reasonable price. Buying a new down comforter every time you want to change your style is not financially prudent. A good down comforter is not cheap. As a matter of fact, you would be unable to change your style of comforter because, as I mentioned, most down comforters are white!

I love changing the colors in my bedroom. I get bored with the same old thing all the time (that does not include my husband). Different styles and colors give me a "lift", especially during the cold and snowy winter months.

So after purchasing you down comforter take the next best step: buy a duvet cover for it. You will be happy with the fact that you can change colors and styles while keeping your original down comforter -- a win/win situation!

In order to use available open spaces to their full capacity, a number of people opt for patio covers. They are attached and extend over an open space with the help of support beams. We all have that one room in our homes where the walls are uneven and bumpy. When company comes over we steer clear of that one room. Every time we are out shopping we are looking through wall covering catalogs or asking the professionals questions. We just haven't found the solution to our dilemma. That is until today.

The solution that can beautify, easy to maintain and can be applied right over the disastrous wall is decorative wall paneling.

Wall history dates back thousands of years ago. Walls have two main purposes. They act as a support for a structure and to divide or enclose an area. Wall paneling is a decorative treatment of walls which consist of thin sheets of different materials that are framed together.

It adds charm and style and brings luxury and sophistication to your living quarters. Decorative wall paneling is versatile, inexpensive and gives just the right look wherever it is placed. It is welcome in every room of the house. it can also be placed on walls below ground level. There are so many choices you will never be at a loss for inspiration.

Decorative wall paneling is available in a variety of finishes, textures and wood grains with distinctive groove patterns. Consumers have a choice of plywood, fiberboard, hardboard or engineered wood. Decorative varieties come in such styles as bead board, finished panels, wood grain, lionite, wainscot, plank panels and project panels.

Bead board panels add visual interest and are a great selection to use as an accent. Finished panels add richness and textures and are available in a variety of patterns and colors. Wood grain is usually oak or cedar and is pre-finished. Lionite is the toughest of decorative wall panels which is baked on and water resistant and has a melamine finish. Wainscot is pre-cut with a double groove pattern and comes in many wood grains. Plank panels are easy to install and can be hung vertically, horizontal, and diagonal or even in a herringbone pattern. Project panels have a dry erase surface. This is perfect for your home office, garage or basement.

There are eco friendly panels made from bamboo pulp which is one of the world's most reusable resources. This does not have any chemical filler or additives and trees were not harmed in this process.

There is another wall paneling that uses decorative wrapped fabric that reduces noise and reverberation. You can order custom made panels to meet your specific needs.

Most wall panels are specially coated and sealed to resist moisture and water migration that can cause mold. This decorative solution has become a maintenance free solution for our hectic lives. Install it and enjoy it. It's just that simple!

Whether you hang this to cover up an existing wall, disguising a not so smooth wall or just to add a modern decorative pattern you will be amazed at the finished product. Another perk is that modern materials have also allowed natural light to come in while preventing harmful UV rays to damage the wall paneling.

In today's factories, decorative wall panels are pre-cut to the correct dimensions. This minimizes the time of labor and installation. They also have easy to follow instructions and use many tools that you have around the house. This project is easily completed over a weekend.

If you decide to cover your entire room or just one wall my advice to you is get started. Make that impressive statement that we all desire. So at your next dinner party the entire house will be on show.

Using Discount Drapery Fabric

You can afford to decorate if you use discount drapery fabric. Not only that, but these rich fabrics can be put to other uses as well. The weight of drapery fabric makes it ideal for slipcovers for furniture, throw pillows and duvet covers. Should you sew your own? Even some of the best decorators, who know how to sew very well, try to avoid it and find other ways to make things. You can use some of their creative tricks as well. Using discount drapery fabrics in creative ways can save you a lot of money. Fabric folding is one of the ways that you can create a decorator look without sewing.

Folding the fabric in an accordion and then draping and feeding it through pretty sconces or rings on the wall will create a beautiful jabot curtain, tails and all. When you have a curtain with a droopy center, you can just tack the middle to the wall. Adhesive strips are another no-sew way to create beautiful décor. This web-like fabric is ironed onto the back of a fabric and will hold two pieces of a fabric together, or adhere the fabric to another surface.

You have to make sure whether or not the the strips are washable; if you are using a non-washable fabric it may not matter, but if you want to be able to wash your curtains, it will. If you do decide to sew, you really open up a world of possibilities. Even from a novice sewer to an expert seamstress, there is a kind of sewing that can make use of discount drapery fabrics. Beginner sewers should use solid fabrics, or ones with a very simple, small design; using stripes and plaids are difficult to match pieces properly. If the patterns don't match the project will look home made. You want your efforts to look professional, even if they are not. If you choose the right pattern, this is possible. To get the look of a pattern without really having one, you can use tone-on-tone material, where the same colors are used in both the pattern and the background. Mistakes blend more easily into this kind of pattern. Think about using discount drapery fabric for your pillow, throws and table runners.

The heaviness of these fabrics makes it perfect for these types of projects, not just draperies. This goes for any kind of project that calls for a thick fabric. You can use a foam pillow and put a drapery fabric slip over it and have a beautiful sham for the bed. Zippers can be added to make it easy to remove for cleaning. Drapery fabric also lends itself to spot cleaning, so you don't have to bring everything to the cleaners. Table runners are an easy project for a beginner sewer using drapery fabric. Sew a backing of plain material and put a fringe or beading on the ends and you have a lovely decorative addition to your home.

You can use drapery fabric to make simple duvet covers for your bed, and have the advantage of changing your bedroom décor without the expense of new bedspreads. You can make more than one and be able to change the look of the room frequently. Using the same fabric, you can coordinate curtains and pillows to the duvet covers. This is a very affordable way to give yourself a lot of flexibility in decorating. You can find coordinating discount drapery fabrics to allow you to mix and match in your decorating scheme.

When it comes to the bathroom, you should be sure you employ a captivating design style. But it might be difficult to make smaller areas be big on style. Lucky for you, there are various methods you can deploy to make decorating small bathrooms a large success!

There are beautiful decorating themes which you can decorate with in cozy spaces, yet you need to be sure to go with the ones that work with the elements of small spaces. One big feature to avoid with small bathrooms is clutter due to the fact that it has a proclivity to make the room feel much smaller.

Furniture placement is an extra thing to keep in mind when decorating small bathrooms. You might consider the principles of Feng Shui when setting up the furniture and accessories in your bathroom. Unhindered access into a room is able to make it look bigger, so try and keep your furniture away from the doors. If you are able to, focus the eye from the open doorway to a larger piece like a can help divert the eye and offer the illusion of a larger room.

Pick the colors for the bathroom with care as various colors could help make it appear more open. You've perhaps been told that light colors cause a room to seem larger and darker tones make it appear smaller, yet it's quite a bit more complex than that. One technique you can use to get beautiful color in your bathroom is to decorate with a monochromatic color palette, or use a few colors but that all reflect the same brightness. You might even go for a moss green decorating scheme, or if you want more color decorate with yellow, hot pink and orange that all reflect the same tone and intensity. Painting the wall opposite the entrance a deep shade will cause it to look further away, therefore, adding depth. For wall paint colors, pale hues like blue gray will cause an overall larger appearance as they give the feeling of the walls receding. You could get a similar feeling with most of the cool paint colors - the ones in the purple, blue and green shades.

Designing a room with a certain decorating theme in mind can also help to make ideal use of the bathrooms space. Think about styles that allow for a lot of baskets and shelving since these can be used as additional storage. Whatever you go with, don't forget to be certain that you like the look of it, this is your room for personal care.

Use furniture sparingly and think about using smaller pieces. Instead of using a hamper, think about using a basket which will make it feel more spacious while still allowing towels and bath linens to be hidden away. You might also break up any monotony in the room design of your bathroom by mixing large with small, so mix your small baskets, use a large mirror, they will offset each other plus add character to the room.

These tips allow decorating small bathrooms to be easy and also effortless. Use your imagination and you will have a small sized bathroom that is big on decorating style in no time.

Ever wonder where the world’s largest chandelier is located? Stand in line – there are quite a few places that claim to have the world’s largest chandelier. Here is a list of some of the world’s biggest chandeliers. Decide for yourself which one can claim the crown as THE largest chandelier in the world.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Perhaps the largest chandelier in the world is located here! This crystal chandelier is about 46 feet high (picture a four story building!). It is about 26 feet in diameter, and it comes to a weight of 8.5 tons which is close to 20,000 pounds! In other words, this crystal chandelier in Oman weights more than a large (very large) elephant. It is made up of 600,000 crystals. Of course, it makes sense that it should be so big… after all, can you imagine how tiny a regular size chandelier would look hanging from a 150 foot high ceiling with in an 80 foot wide dome?

The light emitted from this chandelier comes from 1,114 halogen bulbs. How would you like to have to be in charge of replacing those bulbs?! What’s more, all of the metal parts of the crystal chandelier are plated with 24-carat gold.

Some say that this chandelier is cited in the as a Guinness Book of Records, but the only records that I found for Oman is the lowest death rate, and the largest abacus!

Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

The Guinness World Records does have listed, however, the largest glass sculpture in the world. This sculpture is not what most people generally think of as a chandelier, but it still fits the bill. This ceiling chandelier was created by the famous glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. It measures 65 feet 7 inches by 29 feet 6 inches. It’s total weight? A total of 50,000 pounds, made up of 10,000 pounds of steel and 40,000 pounds of hand-blown glass! It truly is a site to behold.

Melbourne’s Crown Casino

While the chandelier in Melbourne’s Crown Casino cannot compete with the largest chandeliers of the world, it is generally noted as the largest chandelier in the southern hemisphere. This crystal chandelier is made up of 40,000 crystals. This, though, like Chihuly’s chandelier, is not your traditional chandelier. Sure, it is made up of crystals, but these crystals are not lit by candles or light bulbs. Rather, 10,000 fiber optics have been placed among the 40,000 crystals. These fibers work with two lasers that provide interesting animation on the ceiling.

Sand’s Casino, on the Chinese island Macao

This amazing, nearly 120 foot tall chandelier weighs an impressive 100,000 pounds plus.

Hollywood Casio, Shreveport, LA

This chandelier is clearly not the tallest, but it certainly deserves a mention. It is over three-story high, but the most impressive part about this chandelier is not just its size, but the lighting effects that come from it. There are three very unique colored lighting shows that the casino can put on.

Trafford Centre, Manchester England

Purportedly, come September of 2006, the world’s largest chandelier will by in Trafford Centre. No, this does not mean that one of the abovementioned chandeliers is going to be moved there. Rather, this Manchester shopping center is undergoing a huge remodel, and when it is done, the building will house a new, world’s largest chandelier!

Silk comforters are one of the more pricey items you can purchase for your bed, but they are also one of the most enjoyable. Thankfully natural silk fibers are quite durable when cared for properly and can last for 10 years or more of every day use.

Most silk bedding, including sheets, pillow cases, and duvet covers are hand washable in lukewarm water with mild soap or detergent. Silk fabric like charmeuse or habotai is sensitive to wringing or the agitation experienced in a washing machine or dryer, but a gentle hand washing is ok.

However the insulation material, called silk floss, used in a silk comforter will be ruined by either machine washing or hand washing. It is dry clean only.

The best way to keep your silk comforter clean is by using a duvet cover. A duvet cover is like a big bag for your comforter, with an enclosure on one end, usually made from cotton or silk fabric. It keeps your silk comforter clean by protecting it from spills and dirt. Also, a duvet cover protects your silk comforter from your body oils which can deteriorate the silk over time.

In combination with a duvet cover, you can also use a top sheet. Then you can wash the top sheet every week and the duvet cover less often, maybe once per month. The top sheet is much easier to launder, and you don't have to take the time of removing and then inserting the comforter. Though many people just use a duvet cover, which is fine if you wash it frequently.

When you use a duvet and/or top sheet, and give them frequent cleanings, your silk duvet will only need to be dry cleaned every 1-3 years, or maybe less if it's not used all year round. If you are concerned with extending the useful life of your comforter, it's important to think about protecting it, because even dry cleaning causes some subtle damage that shortens the life of your silk comforter.

Having said all of the above about protecting your silk comforter, it's important to also say that the comforter's main purpose is your good pleasure. Some people prefer to use their silk comforter without worrying about how clean it is. They just want to enjoy its softness and suppleness against their body. And that's a good point. There is a lot of value in enjoyment without worry.

Spot Cleaning and Sun Curing a Silk Comforter

There are a couple ways that you can clean your comforter without taking it to the dry cleaner. First, if you do have a small spill or there is a surface dirt mark on your silk comforter, you can use water and mild detergent to wipe the spot away. When it's a deep spill, of some substance that must be removed, then off to the dry cleaner you go.

Silk comforters originated in China where sun curing has been the accepted cleaning method for centuries. Sun curing is the process of laying your comforter out in the sun for a few hours to let it thoroughly dry. This process removes moisture and gives your comforter a pleasant smell. Of coarse sun curing won't actually remove dirt and grease, but it does help revitalize the natural insulation properties of silk.

It's best to cover your silk comforter when sun curing, either with the duvet cover or some other fabric. Direct sunlight does some small damage to the silk fabrics.

Storing Your Silk Comforter

When putting your comforter away in storage, use a breathable bag, like cotton, to prevent moisture build up in the comforter. The bag should also protect from dust and dirt settling on the comforter and working down into the fabrics. The storage area should be a cool dry place.

Wall art is vital in any room, but if you don’t arrange it perfectly it might ruin the entire look. When hanging individual pieces, put the center of the piece at eye level as the focal point. When displaying a variety of items in a group, it’s a useful idea to work out the placement first by working with them on the floor and rearranging them until you work out that perfect look. Envision adding beach themed items, palm tree knick knacks, or flamingos for more of a feeling of the beach. When purchasing your decorative items, however, you need to be certain that they are in keeping with the interior design theme and also have some sort of matching qualities with each other. If you select decorative items in a hurry, then you could end up ruining the ambiance you are working hard to develop.

Another item you might use to add appeal to your design theme is decorative pillows. Pillows add a wonderful touch and look alluring in any room not the least of which is the bedroom, den and kitchen. Using decorative pillows arranged at the head of your bed should give your room a great professional interest. You can display pillows in the kitchen or bath by displaying them on chairs, shelving and any corner or any interesting spot. Sticking to pillows that are fun and tropical will help add a comfortable appeal.

Accessorizing your Tropical interior decorating theme with whimsical pieces with tropical flair can help pull your room together. However before you go out and select a variety of items, you need to have an idea of the types of things you would like and purchase those pieces. Also, consider the sizes you must have that will help fill out the area. If you decorate with these rules, you’ll be able to adorn your home with decorative pieces that work great with each other.
