Bedroom decor is often overlooked because hardly anyone sees it but you. You spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, probably in that overlooked bedroom. A restful night's sleep is easier to achieve when your room reflects peace, order and tranquility. However, with busy schedules or limited funds, you may not be able to splurge for the bedroom set of your dreams. So how can you change the look of your bedroom without spending tons of time and money? Simple! There are plenty of small changes you can make to your bedroom that will make a world of difference.

Stunning Walls Let's start with the first thing everyone notices in a room: the walls. A fresh coat of paint is a great way to make a change, but it can be time consuming and messy. If you don't have time to paint, consider a different focal point for the walls. Adding something as simple as a new painting, mirrors, or a collage of photos can give your bedroom the punch you're looking for. Think about your style when choosing a focal point. If you're into country décor, a floral still-life or rustic landscape is appropriate. If you like a crisp, streamlined look then choose a colorful print with a simple black frame. A cottage-themed bedroom might call for a seaside landscape as a perfect finishing touch.

A mirror can easily add depth to your bedroom when hung over the headboard of your bed or a low dresser. An iron-framed mirror with lots of scrolls and flourishes might dress up a Tuscan-themed room, while an ornate, dark frame would look perfect in a traditional or Victorian room. The internet is a great place to search for bargain mirrors and throw pillows to dress up your bedroom.

If you have a lot of pictures you'd like to display, consider setting aside one wall as a collage wall. Choose frames in contrasting sizes, colors and textures for added interest. If you want to keep the frames the same but want to add a punch of color, choose different colored mats that compliment your existing window treatments or bedding. Or for a contemporary room, sleek black frames with stark white matting would show off your photos in chic fashion.

Luxurious Bed A new comforter or duvet cover is the perfect way to spice up your bedroom. A bed-in-a-bag set allows you to change the shams, sheets, comforter and bed skirt in a coordinating set. If you have a set you like but it seems to be lacking something special, add pillows. A luxurious bed is covered with tons of pillows in assorted sizes. You can purchase some extra pillow shams to stuff with foam pillows. You can also add coordinating smaller pillows to give your bed a dramatic flare. Don't be afraid to mix and match fabrics and textures. Plaids and florals look great together. The luxurious sheen of colorful satin pillows with a dark or plain comforter adds pizazz.

If you don't have the money for a new bedroom set but you'd love to update the look, consider adding a new headboard to your bed. You can find an assortment of headboards in wood, iron or brass.

Perfect Windows New window treatments can be expensive, so why not improve what you have or make your own? Use contrasting bed linens to fashion new curtains. If you can't sew there's hem-tape you can apply with an iron for easy assembly. Sometimes the addition of fringe, beads or a strip of contrasting color ribbon can dress up an existing curtain with little cost.

Spruced Up Floors The last area that can easily be spruced up in the bedroom is the floor. If you have hardwood floors you can easily add a new accent rug to help add dimension and flare to a usually boring floor. An area rug applied over a carpet can add definition and interest to an otherwise boring area. For a contemporary look, a shag rug in a bright color would be perfect. Traditional and modern rugs, or colorful nautical-themed rugs would add interest in a cottage or beach-themed room.

A New Look for your Bedroom... Now that you have some ideas for sprucing up your bedroom you'll want to get to work in the most important room of your home. A gorgeous bedroom that you're proud of promotes a better sleep atmosphere. By adding a few touches like mirrors or pillows, you're well on your way to a bedroom you can enjoy!

If you are looking for an alternative to down filled duvets you may have seen duvets filled with silk fiber. Because of their high price tag, you may wonder what makes a silk duvet worth the money that the stores are charging. You may also want to know more about why a silk duvet is superior not only to duvets filled with synthetic fiber but also goose and duck down as well.

The fact is that there are many different benefits to choosing a duvet that is filled with silk fibers. The first is that these duvets are much less likely to cause allergic reactions than one which is filled with feathers. In the beginning, when a down duvet is in top shape and there are no feathers escaping from inside a feather duvet may not cause allergic reactions. However, in time, when the weave of the duvet cover can break down, feathers can escape and cause all sorts of problems in people who have allergies.

The second is that a duvet filled with silk fibers is much easier to clean than one which is filled with down or even synthetic fibers. Both down and synthetic fibers will break down over time and with repeated cleanings. However, they will break down in different but equally unpleasant ways.

Down filled duvets will invariably become lumpy and cold over time. This is because the down will bunch up and group together. Because the small fibers in the feathers that trap air and provide insulation are gone, they will not protect against heat loss as easily. Synthetic fibers will also clump up over time and cause cold spots although they may not be as lumpy as natural down duvets may be.

If you are looking at silk filled duvets you want to make sure that you are picking duvets filled with long silk fibers. These will have been woven together to form an insulating layer that will both breathe and retain heat. This makes them much more comfortable year round than a synthetic duvet will be. They tend to be much more expensive than any other kind of duvet however so if cost is a factor you may want to stick to other fillers.

By knowing the advantages of silk filled duvets you may be able to justify the added cost of purchasing one. Whether it is because they are hypoallergenic or they last much longer than a synthetic duvet, the choice is clear. Silk duvets really are worth the money that you will pay.

The best way to approach bathroom decor is to begin by selecting a theme. Since bathrooms are relatively small areas, it's best to stick with a single primary theme. Once you select a theme, you'll want to choose wall art, a shower curtain, rugs, and storage items that coordinate with each other. Be sure to select items that blend with your existing wallpaper or paint color, unless you're planning to change the walls when you update the decor.

Nautical Bathroom Decor

Those who live near the water or enjoy spending time on the water often choose to decorate their bathrooms using a nautical theme. Dolphin Bathroom Decor

Dolphins are a very popular collectible item throughout the home. Many people incorporate dolphins into their bedroom den, and bathroom decor. There are many different types and styles of dolphin bathroom accessories, including wall art, towels, shower curtains, trash cans, and much more. Many people chose to decorate the bathroom blue when using dolphin styles. You could also use a shade of white or cream and user the dolphins to give the room some extra color.

Angel Bathroom Decor

Another very popular theme for bathroom decor involves utilizing angels as a decorative element. There are many different styles of angel decor, ranging from Victorian era angels to cherubs. Regardless of the type of angel you prefer, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of bathroom decor items that feature an angel theme.

So as you can see, there are many options available to you when you are choosing your bathroom decor. Choose wisely and you will have a room that the whole family will enjoy using.

Regardless of your budget you can use country style home décor to change your home from boring to beautiful. Simple changes like stenciling and coordinating your wall art and pillows can be an inexpensive way to give some country charm to your home. Some other things you can change, depending on your budget, include flooring, lighting, accessories, wall coverings, window treatments and furniture.

It is important that your flooring match your overall colors and design theme, but if you can’t afford new floors then you can cover your current floors by using small rugs with a country look. If you are lucky enough to be able to afford new floors, you might try hardwood floors and soften them up with braided rugs.

An important change you should consider for your country style home décor look is painting or wallpapering the walls. For this theme the colors are important - you should think about adding blues, reds and greens either in your wall color or your accessories. Try using a paint with wallpaper borders on the walls, or try a matching wallpaper and border set. You don't have to get too fancy or spend a lot of money but a nice color on the walls can work wonders. If you are afraid to put color on the walls you can cover the walls in a neutral shade and play up the color with accents like pillows, rugs and curtains.

Good lighting is a must in any household. To augment your country style home décor design theme, you need to consider light fixtures in terms of both type and style. While you are going for a country theme, you may want to look at installing plain overhead lighting with table lamps but try to steer clear of anything which is too fancy with lots of sparkly crystals.

Decorative accessories are essential to pulling your country style home décor theme together. You can totally alter the appearance of your room simply by replacing the accessories! Concentrate on shopping for wall art, pillows and knick knacks, in patterns and colors complimentary to your country Style. You'll be amazed at how simple and cheap it is, and what an incredible difference these changes make! Be certain to add in lots of vintage country pieces as well as handmade bowls, baskets or boxes and you may even try certain interesting tins and old painted items found in garages and basements to really spruce up your home. Extra touches such as old fashioned signs in either wood or tin can give your home a designer look.

Country furniture can be comfy and overstuffed but you really need to watch the pattern of your upholstery. Plaid is a popular country theme, but if you prefer something more subtle you can get upholstery in a solid color such as red, blue or even tan and spruce it up with plaid or patterned pillows. To really pick up on the country design style, try using furniture made from pine with a plain stain or a painted finish.

How you dress your windows are important to your country style home décor look. There are many window treatments that can enhance this design, particularly if you match fabrics to your window treatments, however you should avoid contemporary style prints. You can match your curtains or drapes to the fabrics on your furniture, use plain sheers or sheers with a valance. Even just wooden blinds can work well with the country look.

One area that is often ignored when redecorating your room is the wall space. Even the ugliest walls can be enhanced with beautiful paintings and wall art. Try adding folk art paintings, stencils or a hand painted mural to your walls to highlight the charm of your country design.

Achieving a fabulous country look in your home can be as basic as just buying new decorative accessories or as involved as replacing everything. Either way, paying attention to detail and making sure you match your furniture and decorative items will help you accomplish a decorative new country style home décor theme that you can be proud of.

Whether you are adding personality to bland walls in your little one’s nursery or looking for the perfect background for a wall mural, you can’t go wrong with clouds. Picture big, fluffy clouds – the kind you see on warm summer days. You (yes you!) can paint them! Just follow these simple step by step instructions.

First, take a trip to your local hardware store. You will need to select paint to use as the background for the clouds. Choose a blue paint that not only looks great with your décor, but also makes you think of the sky on a clear summer day. The background paint should be a low-gloss paint, such as an eggshell or satin finish.

You will also need to purchase some other items - one gallon glaze, one quart white semi-gloss paint, and a sea sponge. Also pick up the following items if you don’t already have them laying around at home - a paint stirrer stick and plastic bucket to mix the glaze and paint together, a paintbrush to add the glaze mixture to the sponge, a couple clean rags to blot the sponge to remove excess paint, and cheesecloth to soften the clouds after you paint them.

After you get everything home, it’s time to paint! First, paint the walls with your blue background paint. If needed, add a second coat. The background paint must be completely dry prior to painting the clouds, so make sure you give it a full day to dry before moving on to the next step.

After the background is completely dry, it’s time to paint the clouds. Here’s how:

Step One:

Mix together a gallon of glaze with a quart of white paint in a plastic bucket using the paint stick. The glaze mixture will have a tendency to separate, so keep the paint stick handy and stir the mixture as needed.

If you would like to use different quantities of paint and glaze, you can – just measure and mix four parts glaze with one part paint.

Step Two:

Lightly coat the sponge with the glaze mixture using a paintbrush. Dab off any excess paint on clean rags.

Step Three:

Twisting and turning the sponge as you work, blot the glaze mixture on the wall or ceiling in the shape of a cloud. It is helpful to have a few pictures of real clouds available to look at as you work.

For vertical walls, you may want to first blot the glaze mixture in a horizontal line, then build the top of the cloud on this base.

Step Four:

Remember, clouds are generally light and fluffy, so use the cheesecloth to further soften the cloud before the glaze mixture dries. Then use the sponge to dab additional glaze on the cloud to add even more texture.

Step Five:

Repeat steps two through five, adding more clouds. For the most realistic look, paint the clouds in a random pattern and vary their sizes.

Paint as many clouds as you want using this method. It’s tried, it’s true, it works, and anyone can do it!

Cotton Duvet Covers Tips

Cotton is one of the most used fabric in duvet covers and knowing differences between cotton fabrics quality and how to protect your cotton cover is essentially. The above tips will help you choose a better and quality cotton cover.

One of the problems people experience is that white cotton products in general will turn yellowish if they use bleach when washing the product. Bleach will also damage the fabric in time and nobody wants this to happen to their products. So bleach will do mare harm than good on the long run. You can however use bleach, but not with every wash. In order to keep your duvet covers or any other laundry white you can use Mrs. Stewart's laundry bluing(easy to find in supermarkets). But be sure to follow the instructions very carefully. Make sure you dilute the bluing agent. The idea is that bluing agents cause cotton fabric to become brittle.

In fact, it's best to dilute a thimble of bleach in a gallon of water and soak the duvet cover for a day. Then soak in argo corn starch diluted for a day. This starch process will block yellow.

To protect from the bleach negative effects it's best to use cold water. Cold water activates the process, but prevents the negative bleach effect(like getting holes in your duvet covers or other white laundry).

Another great product to protect your white covers is 20 Mule Team Borax, although it's expensive. As an alternative you can use a cup of bleach and 1/2 cup of baking soda.

If you are looking to buy a cover, make sure it's 100% cotton. It's best to get Egyptian or pima cotton. Even with a less thread count(measures softness, look for at least 220), they are softer than regular cotton. If you find a duvet cover that is a combination of cotton and polyester, you should know that polyester will make it crispy. It's okay as a blend, but not 50/50. At least 80/20.

Choosing Bedroom Curtains

Bedroom curtains are important in a bedroom. You will want to be able to control the lighting that comes through your windows in your bedroom, as well as keep anyone from seeing in your private and personal space. There are some other things that you will want to take into consideration as well, when you are choosing the perfect curtains for your bedroom. Maybe you are redecorating your bedroom, and you want to change the look completely? If this is the case, you will need to choose your curtains that will go into your bedroom before you choose anything else. This is because you can always match and decorate around the curtains that you choose, and use that as a starting point in your redecorating project.

When you are looking for bedroom curtains, be sure that you take into consideration the style and color of the curtains that you are wanting to hang. This is important, and you will want your bedroom to be pleasing to the eye, as well as comfortable. Make sure that you decide which design style you are going with, before you head out the door to go shopping for curtains. Knowing in advance which direction you are leaning towards on design, will help you immensely when you get to the store to pick and choose. This will also make the shopping easier, as you will know if you are looking for dramatic curtains for your bedroom, or simple straight panels that will do the job they are hung there to do.

After you have decided on the design style you are going with for your bedroom curtains, you will be ready to decide on the color. You will want the curtains to stand out and pop from the wall, so that it is obvious that there is a window there underneath them. However, you will also want to take into consideration the other colors that you want to put into the bedroom as well. You want everything to tie together in the end, and be a space that is relaxing and somewhere that you want to be. With that in mind, think about the colors that relax you. While it is proven that colors will effect different people in different ways, you want to be sure that you choose a relaxing color that will help you fall asleep.

Once you have chosen the design and color of the curtains, you need to take into consideration how much light you want coming through your bedroom curtains. If you work graveyard shift, you might need to sleep in your bedroom during the day. If you the light bothers you while you are trying to sleep during the day, you will want a cortina for your bedroom that will allow you to block out the light when you are needing to sleep, and sun is shining outside. This will make your bedroom more comfortable for you to sleep in, and you will enjoy your space so much more, when it works for you.

The era of the sixties and seventies will not go down in history as the era of good taste. But among all the crazy trends of those decades is one that I still hold a fond remembrance for: the lava lamp. If you are too young to remember lava lamps. I'll describe one. Picture a wiggly glass tube. filled with slimy liquids that are in the most incredible colors of purple. neon green. hot pink. etc. Lumps of some blobby material floated through this mass of color as it undulated in the tube. Sounds lovely. no? Yet. whenever I was around a lava lamp. I would be mesmerized by the slowly swirling colors and the floating blobs. I found it very relaxing and would further enhance this experience with the aroma of joss sticks and the sound of sitar music. I felt that lava lamps were a harmless way to relax and chill out.

Lava lamps are still available today. and I imagine they are being purchased by children of the sixties to recreate that era or by young people of today who enjoy a retro look. Despite their inherent ugliness. I still find them relaxing and oddly comforting. Maybe I equate them with an age when I was still young. optimistic and had dreams. I have even considered buying one. knowing full well that it would clash with everything in my home. I don't know how I would explain it to my cool. Ikea-decorated friends. The appeal of contrast? An ironic comment? In thinking about it. I realize it would not be such a good idea. Back in those days. I could afford to sit aroud in a dreamlike state; today. I have way too much to do. The modern version of the lava lamp is the Plasma Lamp. They do not have the appeal of lava lamps to me. They seem like something out of a science lab or clinical experiment. Lava lamps have a personal appeal. almost with a soul of their own. The best ones were the purple ones. especially if viewed while listening to Jimi Hendrix' Purple Haze. I believe you can make a valid character judgement about someone based on their preferred lava lamp color. Some psychologist should conduct a study on it.

The lava lamp was invented by Craven Walker. and it is rumored that. like most great inventions. like vulcanization and post-it notes. it came about by accident. He was certainly not aware that he invented the symbol of a culture and an era. Even though lava lamps are intended to be fun. make sure you read any of the warning labels on a lava lamp. One impatient (and stupid) man failed to do this. with dire consequences. In 2004. this young gentleman bought a lava lamp and wanted it to start its bubbling twists and turns right away. Instead of waiting for it to warm up normally. he put it on a stove burner. and the glass exploded and a shard of it pierced his heart. There are even those who try to make their own lava lamps. and they are really looking for trouble.

Taking Care of Wicker Furniture

Wicker furniture was popular during Victorian times and it's just as popular today. Home catalogs are featuring wicker couches, lounges, tables, coffee tables, chairs, and plant stands. Most of the furniture is woven, but other furniture looks as if it has been knit with giant needles.

What does the word "wicker" mean? According to http://www.naturalhandyman.com wicker refers to furniture that is made from vines, grasses and plants. The website divides wicker into four basic categories: rattan, reed, willow, and bamboo. Wicker furniture is popular because it's strong and relatively inexpensive.

Another plus is that wicker goes with almost everything. Ikea sells a modern wicker chaise with a metal frame, for example. You can also find reproductions of Victorian furniture. Most wicker is lightweight and easy to move. Unless you take care of your wicker, however, you won't have much to move.

As durable as it is, wicker is also fragile, and needs regular care. Natural wicker is not intended for outdoor use. If you want wicker furniture for your deck or patio you'll have to buy plastic wicker. Follow these tips to keep your wicker furniture looking as good as the day you bought it.

1. Keep wicker furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, heating ducts, fireplaces, and wood burning stoves.

2. Vacuum wicker with a brush attachment. Go with the weave, not against it. While you are vacuuming check the piece for sharp ends, splits, and holes.

3. Wipe up spills immediately with a damp cloth and mild soap.
Work fast because unsealed wicker absorbs moisture like a sponge.

4. Dry wicker has a tendency to split, so wipe down your furniture regularly with a damp cloth.

5. Older wicker that has accumulated dust and dirt may be washed down with a garden hose, according to http://www.furniturecaretips.com. However, don't use too much pressure or a pressure washer. Let the water drain and dry the furniture with a soft cloth.

6. After you have wiped or washed wicker furniture let it dry completely before using it again.

7. Wicker furniture can be painted to go with your decorating scheme. Your local home store should be able to advise you on the best paint to use. If you use spray paint use short strokes to prevent drips.

8. Learn how to repair your wicker chairs. You'll find repair kits and tools on the Internet. Community Education may also offer a course on chair caning.

Wicker furniture has already stood the test of time and will probably be around a long time. Look for wicker the next time you're in a home store. A wicker piece may be just the piece you need to complete a room.

Motorized window shades are battery-operated window shades popular for their reliability and low power consumption. Thus they are affordable and very practical.

Such window shades are generally used in several areas in homes such as master bedrooms. Apart from that, they also find a place in home theaters to prevent light from external sources from coming in. Using motorized shades in large homes is much more convenient when compared to manually operated window shades.

Apart from convenience, security is another reason people tend to go in for motorized window shades. Motorized window shades can be prearranged to go up and down at fixed timings to make the house appear occupied. Sensors can trigger the shades to open when movement is detected outside.

They can be used to protect furnishings and pieces of art from fading due to over-exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet rays. In such cases motorized shades are triggered by light sensors to close automatically. Motorized semi-transparent shades that allow only a part of the light are invaluable for glare control, room darkening and protecting the room from harsh sunlight.

Motorized shades find uses in baths especially for unreachable windows over whirlpool-style bathtubs. They are also very handy for blocking out sunlight from skylights. The absence of strings makes the window shades childproof.

On hot days, motorized window shades can help to cool the room and vice-versa. Some window shades are designed to trap warm or cold air, thus providing insulation for your home.

Motorized window shades are energy saving and thus cost-saving as they can control the temperature by automatically opening and closing when the need arises. About 10 to 15 percent of energy cost can be saved by using motorized shades.

Wall switches, remote control, computers or home control systems can be used to control motorized window shades. These kinds of shades have a motor built into the head rails of the shades which may be controlled manually or by sensors. The remote control generally operates on line-of-sight infrared or radio frequency.

Creating a nice family spot for enjoying TV is not all that difficult to do. Basically, just use TV cabinets as your starting point and go from there.

Why are TV cabinets such a great starting point for building this kind of space? Well, it is because of their design, which makes them an extremely versatile furnishing. Typically, one will not only come with a nice area to put a TV, but will have additional storage features for all those other necessary items that you need when to go along with owning a TV. Like, a cable box, DVD player, and areas to put movies and other items. So, to give yourself a nice place to put those things, you can get options with shelving that is housed by doors with glass panels.

In addition to being practical, TV cabinets are also a nice starting point because they are extremely pleasing to the eye. So, they would be a nice decorative addition to your space. The reason they have such a great appearance is because of the materials they are built from and the stunning ways those materials can be styled through different accenting and finishes. For instance, you can purchase one built from oak that has a simple clear lacquer applied to it to bring out the beauty of the wood. Or, you can get another that is made from pine that has sleek lines and a stunning espresso stain applied to it.

What can also add to the beauty of TV cabinets is the different hardware that can be installed on it. For example, traditional brass hardware might be installed on the first option above to create one grand selection while brushed chrome hardware might be installed on the second to create one modern looking piece.

Now, we'll talk a little bit about how you can use TV cabinets as the starting point in your living space. What you do to do this is actually pretty simple. You just purchase the one that you find pleasing to the eye and place it in your living room, typically up against a wall is an ideal way to go. Then, when it's in place you build up everything else around it. Like, you add the seating, the accent furnishings to match, and put a few decorative finishing touches here and there to complete everything. Really, it's that easy.

For a nice way to look into the different TV cabinets that you could possibly purchase, just jump on the Internet and do some online shopping. It's effortless since you don't even have to leave your home to do it and when you do happen upon something that you like, it will typically be available at a pretty reasonable price.

In the end, if you want to have this nice spot where you and your family can go and watch TV, turn to TV cabinets to make it happen. They are versatile furnishings that would be a really quality investment.

The value of your home usually increases over the years, as long as it remains well maintained. Deferred maintenance is a huge detractor from a home's perceived & actual value. Whether you try to sell or refinance your home, down the road, the appearance of upkeep will show up in dollars.

Here are ten things you can do, this Fall, to keep and enhance your home's equity.

1. Remove or Cover Air Conditioning Units.

2. Paint Interior Rooms - it's still warm enough to leave windows open, providing essential ventilation when working with fumes. Also, open windows and a good autumn breeze will help the paint dry quicker.

3. Inspect Furnace - replace air filters, check belts & clean any parts that require it. If your warranty includes or requires professional HVAC inspection, now is a great time to do it - before a problem should arise.

4. Check safety gadgets. Make sure your smoke detectors, fire detectors, and carbon monoxide or radon alarms are in good, working order. Replace the batteries twice a year. I live in an area that has daylight savings time, so I like to use that as my reminder to change batteries. This tip could work for you, too!

5. Clean leaves & debris out of rain gutters. Flush them, if necessary to ensure they are draining properly. I like to point downspouts towards landscaped areas, to deliver the extra water to plants that will use it.

6. Clean & winterize landscape maintenance equipment. This will ensure that things like rakes and hoes do not rust & preserve the interior of your lawnmower's engine. Failure to add fuel stabilizer before storing your lawnmower for the winter will lead to extensive maintenance and repair, come spring.

7. Check doors & windows for proper insulation & weather stripping. Now is the time to make improvements to prevent winter drafts. This will keep your home warmer & keep your energy bill lower.

8. Make your sensitive landscaping Winter-ready. You can rake fallen leaves around the base of rose bushes. There are a number of chemical and organic winterizers on the market - you can ensure your ground is nourished all Winter.

9. Ensure that chimneys are not obstructed. Things like bird nests and collected leaves build up during the Summer when you're not looking. Have your wood burning fireplaces swept once a year.

10. Have fun & decorate! Late Fall is a great time to decorate your exterior with Christmas lights, should you choose to do so. You can put them up when it's not freezing out & not light them until after Thanksgiving.

Just by following these ten simple steps, you can ensure that your home is protected from drafts, leaks, fire, and a host of maintenance problems. Keeping ahead of the problems caused by deferred maintenance will save you time, stress and money, down the road.

12 Guest Room Decoration Tips

Is your guest room also an office or cramped storage space? Do you shove your guests in a basement room with little more than a pull-out couch and an old pillow? If so, it's time to update your space and give your guests a room they can call their own. They will enjoy their time with you more, and the room itself can help make a great impression about your entire home.

Transform that extra, unused room into an oasis to rival any boutique Bed and Breakfast with small luxuries and thoughtful touches that will really make your guests feel welcome. Here are 12 great guest room ideas just for you:

1. Leave a sewing kit in a drawer. Any lost buttons or torn hems can be easily and quickly mended.

2. Always put out fresh, luxury sheets. Opt for a higher thread count of cotton to give your guests the comfort of softness.

3. Use a fresh quilt or duvet cover. If you can't wash your duvet or quilt, freshen it by spraying it with diluted lavender water and allowing it to air dry on a bright and breezy day.

4. Put out nice, plush towels. Always leave your guests enough towels to get them through their visit and let them keep them either in their room or make space for them on your towel rack. Purchase enough of these towels in advance so there is a set for each individual who visits at the same time.

5. Make them feel like locals with maps and guidebooks for your area. Either have a set of maps and guides on hand for returning guests or simply pop over to the library to pick up a few books on the local layout.

6. Get a luggage rack. A luggage rack or even an extra chair for the room is a nice touch, that lets your guests feel a little less like they're living out of a suitcase.

7. Put out fresh flowers on the bedside table and make sure there is sufficient water for them to live through the duration of the visit. If the purchase of real flowers is an expense you'd rather not pay, then buy a silk flower arrangement and keep them in an attractive vase. Don't let them collect dust over time.

8. Give your guests a bit of entertainment. Either put a small television in the corner (with a pair of headphones in case jet-lagged visitors are having trouble sleeping) or a little stereo with a listing of popular local radio stations.

9. A terry cloth robe and fresh slippers are an unexpected treat that lets guests feel comfortable as they make their way to the shower or downstairs for coffee.

10. Always leave out extra blankets in case your guests get cold at night or prefer sleeping a little toastier.

11. Put a small coffee maker or tea kettle on a table in the corner. Include a tray with mugs, spoons and an assortment of coffees, herbal teas, sugar and creamers. Keep the carrying tray clean after spills.

12. Make your guests feel at home with extra closet hangers, lots of dresser space, a spare telephone and a laundry basket for their dirty clothes.

Home Decorating on a Low Budget

Having a beautifully designed home need not be as costly as you may think. That is, if you know how to save without sacrificing style, and know how to avoid wasteful expenses, home decorating on a low budget is possible.

First, determine your budget. How much are you prepared to spend for decorating your home? Then, plan out how you want to spend that budget. List all the items you will need - materials, fixtures, accessories - for each portion of the house you will decorate. It would be better to prepare your budget on a per-room basis rather than budgeting for the entire house all at once. This way you can undertake the decorating one room at a time, starting with those rooms that you feel should be decorated first.

Before you buy anything, visualize first how everything would look in your room, with all the considerations of color, space and lighting. Your interior designer or the store where you will buy the fixtures can help you with this. It is important to view the color schemes you have selected both with natural light and with artificial light from electric lighting, as different kinds of lighting will produce differing effects on the colors. You need to do these visualizations before you make your purchases and installations to avoid having to make the changes after the items have been installed, which would mean a lot of money and time wasted.

Finally, are you decorating a home that you own and where you plan to stay your whole life, or is it just a temporary home for you? These things matter when you plan the amount of money you will put into decorating the place. If you have no plans of staying in this home for a long time, then you would not want to spend too much money on constructions or fixtures that you will have to leave in just a few months. There are decorative items, even furniture, that you can enjoy now but also take with you when you leave. This will also help you save on decorating the next place you will be staying in.

When you're looking to buy luxury comforters it can get a little confusing with all the different options available. Maybe I can help you sort all the details out so you'll find the perfect comforter.

What actually makes a luxury comforter different from the more economical options out there?

One- The quality of the materials like the shell, or outer cover. In cheaper comforters you'll see thread counts generally around 220 or so. This means the weave of the fabric on the shell itself will be looser than it should be, and will eventually allow the feathers of the down fill to poke through the cover.

You want to look 100% cotton with thread counts of 300 or more- generally the higher the better. This way you can be sure that little down feathers won't be poking you in the in the middle of the night.

Two- How the comforter is actually made is also important. In more economical comforters, the fill is just in their floating around, which makes for lumps of down in some areas of your comforter and almost nothing in other places.

So what you want to look for is something called baffle box construction. This means that the down is actually separated inside the comforter itself with fabric channels that keep the down from shifting and moving around. Attention to details like this in luxury comforters guarantee the best warmth distribution and of course, comfort.

Three- Fill power, or how efficient is the fill. For a comforter to be rated as luxurious, you want to look for a fill power numbers of 600 to 700. This means you have large strong clusters of down in your comforter. This provides better insulation, last alot longer than inferior down, and breathes to make you more comfortable.

Four- Is the down clean enough to be allergy free? The better bedding companies make sure to wash and rinse the down and feathers not just once but multiple times to remove any allergens dirt and dust that bite cause you to have an allergic reaction.

Five- Does the manufacturer offer a warranty of any kind? With most companies sadly the answer is no. However there are some reputable firms that do stand behind their product guaranteeing the quality and workmanship of their comforters.

Now that you're armed with these tips on what to look for in luxury comforters, finding the perfect one should be easy.

Remember to also get a duvet cover, in other words, a comforter cover to protect that investment from dirt and sweat.

In fact you might want to consider getting more than one so you always have a fresh one on the bed. Launder those covers once a week or two weeks for the best results.

Cover Your Bed For Valentine's Day

Valentines day is just around the corner. It is a day that couples show there love for one another either through words, actions or gifts. The typical gift that is given on this special occasion is either chocolates, perfume or flowers. Yes this may be amusing to some woman but why not change things a bit this Valentines Day. Why not give her beautiful bedding that will make her feel like the queen that she is. A Duvet set has the effect of making any woman feel like royalty. But which type of duvet set would be best? I suggest a floral duvet cover set. Woman do love flowers and the good thing is that these flowers will not die. You can still get her flowers and chocolate and use it to your advantage with the duvet bedding. You can make it a night she will never forget.

Did you know that the colors of a flower have meaning. We all heard how certain colors can affect the way we think. A yellow flower can bring to you feelings of joy and delight. It is the perfect gift for a close friend. A white flower can be used as a sign of purity, loyalty and sincerity. It makes a great wedding gift. But when it comes to love, a red rose duvet is the one you would want to get for Valentines Day. The red symbolizes love, beauty and passion.

When getting the bed set, spread the rose bedding on the bed. Buy a couple of white candles. Unscented is best. Not everyone is found to the strong aromas some candles may have. Place the candles around the room. Place a beautiful dish with strawberry and chocolates next to the bed with a bottle of her favorite wine. This will be for dessert. Place one single rose in between the pillows and play some slow music. When she arrives at the door, place a blind fold over her eyes and lead her to the bedroom. When she takes off the blind fold, she will definitely be pleasantly surprised. Not only will she get a romantic night, she will also be getting a beautiful floral duvet cover that she will treasure forever.

Decorating a nursery is both fun and frustrating. You want the perfect room for your baby, but how much can you afford to spend? There are so many things for the young parents-to-be to buy, such as furniture, bedding, lamps, wall decorations and curtains. The most important item is the baby furniture, and the largest part of the budget should be devoted to those items. Even if you are buying most items at discount to save money, make sure the crib is good quality and safe.

Scour garage sales or ask relatives and friends for decorating items. You may find a crib at a second hand store, but make sure it is sturdy and safe. A new crib is a safer bet, and you can find bargains at stores such as Walmart, or on line at sites such as overstock.com. You can usually find good bargains there. Graco, Century and Bassett baby furniture are usually higher priced, but if you shop their outlets, you can get good bargains. They often offer decorating ideas as well.

Baby Dream Furniture is an ideal choice for baby furniture on a budget. Their three hundred national stores offer a wide choice of good quality, reasonably priced furniture. If your budget is more liberal, you may want to consider Pali furniture. Classic and elegant baby furniture is available from this Italian manufacturer, but you may have to go on line to find a retailer near you. The Pali line specializes in classic designs such as Jenny Lind, which is very popular, but many other beautiful styles are available for a charming nursery.

Another popular brand for baby furniture is Delta. This line is known for combining good quality with practical form and function. Their products, which include bassinets, cribs, changing tables, toddler beds and carriages are meant to last years and years. Other good quality items that many parents like are the glider rockers, chairs and tables from the Jardine Baby Furniture company. They are value-priced, making them very popular.

After the important items such as furniture are chosen, you can start to pick the decorating items to coordinate with the furniture. Pick the basics such as crib, chest, changing table and a chair or rocker for mom and then you'll know what kind of bedding and accent pieces will go with them.

Floor Lamps

When making your next lighting purchase, make sure to consider floor lamps. Their versatility regarding placement makes them an excellent choice in lighting.

Floor lamps outdo table lamps in so many ways. A traditional table lamp provides wonderful light for a raised surface like a desk, table, or nightstand, but you are limited in its placement to these raised surfaces. A floor lamp can stand alongside a desk or table and provide a wonderful light source. Many floor lamps have flexible necks to provide expanded functionality and can be adjusted to brighten any raised surface, wall, or an entire room.

Not only are floor lamps more versatile in the traditional tasks assigned to desk lamps, but they also have distinctly different uses. Since a floor lamp illuminates both above and below, they are ideal for sitting rooms to both illuminate the room and the area where people are engaged in conversation. With the option of designs from gaudy to very minimalist, a lamp can be added to a room either as a stylistic addition or simply as a lighting upgrade.

Floor lamps can also allow for more creative lighting of a living space. With just a ceiling light you are limited to bright or dark. Floor lamps can illuminate sections of a room, they can shift the visual focus onto a specific painting or piece of art, and floor lamps can themselves act as an attractive piece of furniture. With both antique and contemporary models available, there is undoubtedly a floor lamp to meet your needs.

As a functional piece of furniture, the floor lamp is a solid choice. As a versatile choice of lighting, the floor lamp is excellent. Of all the pieces of furniture you could buy for your home, consider a couple floor lamps as necessities. The floor lamp is a solid piece of furniture that makes a great addition to any room.

A Duvet Cover is actually just another name for a Bed Comforter Cover. It's like a very large pillow case, is is normally used to cover a down comforter. Using a duvet cover makes changing your bedroom decor quick and easy, and it's much easier to clean than a full comforter.

Duvet covers come in all sizes, however according to review in Good Housekeeping Magazine, sometimes sizes can vary as much as 10 inches. When buying duvet covers, it's a good idea to look at the size in inches, then compare that to the actual size of your comforter.

Buying a duvet cover is a quick and easy way to change the look of your bedroom decor. They make great focal and starting points when you're designing the room's look too. Since you can choose from a wide selection of both fabric styles, solid colors, or patterned prints, you can immediately change the entire look of your bedroom simply by changing your duvet cover.

Like sheets, when you buy a duvet cover you'll want to pay attention to the fabric type - or fiber composition. For instance: do you want a 100% cotton duvet cover, pure silk duvet cover, or a polyester cotton blend? The thread count is important too, usually the higher this is, the better quality duvet cover you have. And better quality generally means it will last longer, and look new longer too.

Cleaning your duvet cover is usually just as simple as cleaning sheets. You toss them in the washer and dryer as needed. Since the duvet cover resides on top of your bed, washing it each season tends to be frequently enough for most people.

Duvet covers can be easily made too, from a pair of bed sheets actually. If you find a set of sheets you really like, or you love your current sheets so much you'd like to show them off, buy another two top sheets in the same style, then simply sew them together. Leave one end open to slide your comforter into, and put buttons, a zipper, or pretty ribbon ties on that open end.

When making up a bed to be a real centerpiece of a bedroom and not just a place to go to sleep, there are a lot of different pieces that come together to complete the effect. There are several different kinds of pillows and pillow covers that you can use as well as several different kinds of bed covers.

There are three different types of pillows that are commonly used. The European pillow is large and square. It usually goes back against the headboard. A sleeping pillow is large and rectangular. It's to be used for sleeping as the name suggests. When making up a bed, the sleeping pillows go in front of the European pillows. Decorative pillows go in front of the sleeping pillows. They can be any size or shape but are usually smaller than the European and sleeping pillows. You can also use a bolster which is a long, tubular pillow that's used as a decorative accent.

Pillows covers come in two varieties. They are either shams or cases. A sham has a flange which is a decorative ruffle around the edge. A case does not have a flange and is usually open on one end.

When it comes to bed covers, there are five different types. A coverlet is made of thin fabric and does not drape all the way to the floor. A bedspread, on the other hand, does drape all the way to the floor. A comforter is thick and down filled. A duvet cover is like a comforter without the filling. It is basically a large fabric envelope that goes over a comforter. A duvet cover can be removed easily to be washed or changed. You may also use a blanket or throw over the end of the bed or over one corner as an accent.

Bedroom sets, also referred to as bedroom suites, usually consist of a bed, dresser, and one or more side tables. There will sometimes be a mirror included as part of the suite, usually designed to hang above the dresser.

When it comes to creating a perfect bedroom getaway, you will need at least those few items in your bedroom furniture set. If you really want to create a great bedroom getaway, you may want to look beyond the simple list and begin to create a masterpiece. In addition to a regular dresser, you may want to add a highboy dresser, lingerie dresser, armoire or any of a number of other pieces of furniture that can make a bigger impression in your bedroom.

The key to creating your bedroom suite with little to no stress is to purchase all the bedroom set pieces at once, from a matching set. Many companies will have a large line of items that match which you can pick and choose from to create your own personal matching bedroom suite. If you don't purchase all the items together, from the same company, you may later find yourself looking to find a missing piece or two and having a tough time getting one that properly matches.

While a lot of beautiful pieces are a great thing when it comes to bedroom furniture, it is also important to make sure that you purchase quality pieces of furniture. While something may look great from the outside, you need to do a little research and learn about the construction of the bedroom furniture pieces you are considering.

What are they made of? You want bedroom furniture pieces that are made of solid woods, not particle board. Sometimes, particleboard pieces are created and given a cheap veneer covering, to make it look like a more solid piece of furniture. The truth is, nothing substitutes for the real thing.

Another note to make when shopping for a bedroom suite is the scale of furniture you need. Make sure you write down the measurements of the pieces you need to fill your bedroom. A great bedroom suite can potentially look horrible in a space that is either too small or too large in comparison. Keep in mind the scale of the furniture you need and make a purchase based on that.

Also keep in mind the idea of timelessness. A bedroom suite is not an inexpensive purchase and you will likely keep it in your home for years. You may even pass it down in your family over generations. When you purchase timeless, beautiful furniture that you want to see cherished for many years to come, you need to make sure it is a style that will also be appreciated years down the road.

Making a budget is also a good idea before setting out to purchase bedroom furniture. Like any other furniture, there is a range of price points to look at so when you have a clear budget it is much easier to narrow down the choices.

Supply of Incubators in Hospitals

Over thirty years ago, Physicians found themselves disheartened by the rate of newborn infections, abandonment, and deaths in their hospitals. The hospitals' supply of incubators and medical providers could not keep up with the overwhelming demand for these resources.

One ingenious physician envisioned the concept of mothers serving as live incubators and active caregivers for their babies. Dr. Rey began strapping babies vertically on their mother's bare chest and under her clothes. Like baby kangaroos who find food, warmth, and a safe place to grow in their mother's pouch, Dr. Rey's patients matured and thrived in their mothers' "pouch." This revolutionary life-saving concept came to be known as kangaroo mother care (KMC).

Request a Consistent Nursing Team Neonatal intensive care units provide care to babies twenty-four hours a day. Nurses work eight- to twelve-hour shifts. Th is means that in one day, your babies may be cared for by up to three different nurses. The total number of nurses caring for your babies may multiply tremendously if the same nurses are not assigned to your babies each day. Request that the same set of nurses care for your babies every day if that is at all possible.

The greater exposure a nurse has to your babies, the more knowledgeable she or he will be about your twins' specific needs and temperament. Nurse-infant bonding also increases with time and can have advantageous effects on your babies' overall care. Finally, it will be easier for you to get to know the nurses if they stay consistently the same.

Duvet Covers - What Are They?

Many people fail to understand the differences between duvets, quilts and comforters. Quilts are usually thinner and are known for their intricate stitching patterns. Quilts are a double layer of blanket stuffed with one kind of filling or another to make it thick and soft. Duvets are giant bed-sized bags filled with features, or down, from birds. The word "duvet" is a French word which means "down."

Today, there are many options for down alternatives to fill duvets with, like wool or other natural stuffing. This warm bed covering comes with a cover, which is what makes it a benefit over quilts and comforters. Duvet covers are removable and washable, making them the choice of many when it comes to bed coverings.

The duvet itself cannot be washed because the filling would be ruined, most especially in the case of real down filling. This is why duvet covers are so useful. They serve as a giant pillow case over the duvet. Buttons, zippers or ties at the top of the duvet keep the cover secured until you need to remove it. The covers can be laundered with the sheets and pillow cases in a washer at home, for your convenience.

Like comforters and quilts, duvets are bought according to the size of the bed they will be used on. Some duvets are reversible, giving you designing options each time you wash and freshen up your sheets. You can change the look of a whole room simply by turning your duvet cover inside-out! 100 percent cotton duvet covers are known to be the softest when compared to rayon or microfiber, plus being completely natural makes it hypoallergenic.

The only tricky part about having a duvet is getting the cover on, and the difficulty can be easily remedied with a few tips. Especially with king sized duvets, it is helpful to spread the duvet out completely flat on the bed. Turn the cover inside-out with the bottom seam of the duvet and the cover lined up. Through the duvet cover, grasp the corners of the duvet itself and lift your arms, allowing the cover to fall around the duvet. Shake it out while keeping a secure hold on both the duvet and the cover and secure it in place once it is completely encased. Duvet covers are a great investment for anyone hoping to protect their duvets.

As we all know, color choices play an important role in our daily lives from the clothes we wear to the cars we drive. According to studies, our choice of one color over another color may have something to do with the way color makes us feel.

For this reason, color choices in our homes have a large impact on the comfort level. If you want your home to "feel" a certain way or bring out a person's mood, that can be done with color. Color can make a person feel relaxed, make a person happy, and even increase one's appetite.

For example, if you want your living room to make your family and guests feel peaceful, calm and relaxed, you might consider using blue. Blue brings out feelings of calm, peacefulness and stability. Blue is often used on websites and in business because it also represents reliability and loyalty. Green is also a good soothing, calming color. It represents nature, good health and cleanliness.

Here are more feelings color can bring out:

Yellow - Yellow portrays the bliss of sunshine and communicates happiness. It feels expansive and welcoming. Yellow helps you concentrate and increase your metabolism. The color yellow is perfect for kitchens, dining rooms, hall, entries, and other small spaces.

Red - Red is an intense color that represents danger, power and strength. Red has also been shown to raise blood pressure and speed up heart rate. Red is also associated with love, sensuality and energy. Red is typically not a good color choice for bedrooms because it is too stimulating. Since red is known to increase appetite, it is a good choice for dining rooms.

Orange - Orange is a warm color with the energy of red and the cheerfulness of yellow. Orange brings out feelings of happiness, enthusiasm, creativity, success, and determination. Shades of orange can be a great color choice for family and living rooms. However, orange tones may feel unpleasantly hot. Kitchens and other rooms that face west should consider not using orange tones.

Purple - Purple is the color of royalty, sophistication and romance. It brings out feelings of power, ambition and wisdom. Light purple is more romantic and nostalgic while dark purple can bring out frustration and sadness. Lighter versions of purple such as lavender and lilac can be a great color choice for bedrooms.

Pink - Pink is a feminine romantic color that can bring out feelings of tranquility and passiveness. Shades of pink can be a great color choice for both bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms.

Black - Black usually brings out negative feelings of dread, evil, death and mystery but can also mean power, authority, prestige and elegance. Black is a great accent color. Consider using it for picture frames, accent pillows, trims, lampshades, etc.

White - White usually signifies purity, goodness, cleanliness, simplicity and innocence. White creates a relaxing atmosphere. If decorating a white room, consider adding textures such as fuzzy chenille, shiny damask, or weathered painted wood to make the room more interesting.

Brown - Brown is a neutral color found in earth, wood, and stone. Brown is a warm color that represents wholesomeness and earthiness. The color brown also brings out feelings of stability and dependability. Brown can be a good color choice to use in the dining room because it stimulates the appetite.

As you can see, color is very powerful and can affect your mood as well as enhance your home decor. Be sure to ask yourself, "What mood do I want to create?" before picking out that yellow couch or painting your dining room red.

Happy decorating!

So you have decided to get smart and purchase a duvet cover set but do not have the slightest clue on which one to get. With so many beautiful duvet sets sold today in so many great designs and colors, I can't blame you. What many people do not understand is that this is not just any typical bed set. It is quite unique. Purchasing the right one can save you plenty of money and headaches. That is why I am here to share with you a few tips that can help you find the perfect one for your bedroom. First you have to know where to purchase one. Online is always the easiest way to buy a duvet set and it can help save you a lot of money. Department stores will not sell the same bed set at the same price unless it has some type of defect. They will always sell a brand new set for a lot more then buying it online. But the decision is up to you.

Next you will need to know exactly what size you are going for. This is not as easy as it sounds. You should always pay close attention to the measurements when purchasing a duvet cover. Do not always relay on the size of the bed. A simple way to figure out which is the perfect size is measuring all four sides of the duvet or comforter with a measuring tape. A comforter cover that is just a few inches bigger then the comforter is fine. Just make sure it is not too big. This will cause the comforter to shift around in the cover. If shifting is a problem, you can try purchasing duvet clips. They clip inside the corners of your bedding set, securing your comforter to your duvet cover or you can sew ties inside each corner of the cover to hold the comforter in place. Another important thing to remember when purchasing this type of bedding is the fabric and the thread count. Cotton is always a good choice of fabric. Cotton feels great against your skin and can be easily washed in the washer machine unlike other fabrics that need extra care. The thread count will give a hint on how soft this bed set will feel. Always make sure it has a thread count of 180 or more. Less then 180 is a waste of time and money.

Finally we can now decide on the right design and colors that will look great with the colors and decor in your bedroom. When deciding on the color, it is always a good idea to go with the color of your walls. You do not want to get a bedding set that has too much of the color you have on the walls. Less is always more. When looking for the design, it just depends on the look you are going for. Stripes are great for a more modern look. Polka dot can also be modern but fun. A floral duvet can make the bedroom look more romantic and bright. The list goes on and on but I am pretty sure that the one that you choose will look great as long as you follow these easy steps. Good Luck.

Are you the sort who sees your bedroom as nothing more than a place where you put your bed and sleep, or do you see your bedroom as your own special space? For many a bedroom is a place that is theirs alone and has to reflect their sense of who they are. They take great delight in their bedroom decor and selection of bedroom furniture and in particular the bed they choose to sleep in, and great delight in the overall feel of their bedroom as an intimate place.

If you're one of the former then this article probably won't appeal much. If your bedroom is a place where you sleep and get dressed, and that's the extent of your attachment to your bedroom, then who cares what it looks or feels like?

But if you love being in your bedroom you'll probably love decorating it, taking your time choosing your bed and your bedding, lying in in the mornings to take delight in your surroundings and generally feeling good in your own special room. This article is written for you.

Refurbishing is all the rage now, and for many refurbishing their bedroom is high on their list. So if you're designing your bedroom new, or refurbishing, here's a few things you might like to think about before you start buying at the store.

1. Have a plan. It's easy to see a great bed, love it, buy it and then wonder what else you'll put with it to make it fit in with the room. Before you buy anything for your bedroom you need to decide on a few basic things and preferably write down a decoration plan.

What theme is your bedroom to be? For a child it might be a Winnie the Pooh theme for example, for an adult it might be a color or a period. Or perhaps a certain style of furnishing. You need to decide on an overall theme for your bedroom decorations, then select your bed, bedding and general bedroom furniture to go along with that theme. Including paint color and carpet color of course. Write it all down and plan it all before you start buying.

2. Cost and budget. It' s usually not a cheap matter doing a total bedroom refurbishment, or setting up a new bedroom from scratch. You need to know how much you have to spend and how much each item costs. No point in buying that wonderful four poster bed you've always wanted then being unable to afford the right bedding to make it look great. As well as the bed your sheets, duvet cover, pillows and so on all need to fit in with your theme, so you need the budget to stretch to buying it all, including the right carpet and paint and general bedroom furniture as well, bedroom curtains included. Write down your budget as well as your theme, price everything before you start buying and make sure you know firstly what every item costs before you start and also that the total cost is within your budget.

3. Size. You need to know exactly what size your bedroom is. This needs to be included in your plan. It's no good deciding on that wonderful four poster bed (that fits within your budget) and that beautiful dressing table, and oh those blanket boxes that look so good in timber, and so on, then finding that it's such a squeeze fitting it all in that it's almost impossible to move around your bed. Many people have been caught in the trap of buying then finding that the wonderful bedroom they planned to have is almost unusable because there is so little space left after adding the bedroom furniture.

4. Getting it all into the bedroom. For many this isn't an issue, but for some it is. If your bedroom is up the stairs, around the corner and through a narrow door then you have to consider how you are going to get all that bedroom furniture in. For most pieces of furniture such as dressers and tables, it's usually possible, but it's also possible to buy large items, like that wonderful four poster bed, and finding that you just can't get it through the door. Before you buy the four poster bed make sure you take your measurements of things like widths of your bedroom doors and any other squeeze points that will need to be negotiated to get the bed in.

Find out how it breaks down for example, or if it even does, and make sure you know exactly how it will go in before you buy that wonderful four poster.

For those who love their personal bedroom space having a well designed, well thought out, well decorated and well furnished bedroom is a delight. Make sure you do your basic homework before you start buying or you may find that your special bedroom is not such a delight. Get it right and you'll love it.

The Benefits of Stainless Steel Kitchen Sinks

Stainless steel has emerged as the most popular choice of materials for new sink installations because of its low cost, light weight, and almost unbreakable construction. Stainless steel sinks are made in many sizes and several thicknesses, measured in gauge.

The gauge of the stainless steel is the thickness of the stainless steel sink. The most common gauges are 18 and 20. The higher the number gauge, the thinner the steel. Eighteen is the most recommended gauge for sinks.

Stainless steel kitchen sinks are easy to clean and will stay looking newer for longer when cared for properly. You won’t have to worry about leaving lemons in the sink overnight or cranberry stains, but it can become dull and scratched. It is best to put a plastic or rubber mat in the sink to protect it from scratches. A mat will protect the shiny surface and keep it looking new longer.

When choosing a kitchen sink, there are many different decisions that need to be made. Even the simplest of sinks are available in different styles and colors. The first consideration is the size. Make sure that your sink fits. Most kitchen cabinets are standard 24"" measurement front to back.

Sinks are made with various qualities of stainless steel. Light-gauge stainless steel is more vulnerable to denting and scratching.

Stainless steel is also available in a mirrored finish, which gives it a shinier appearance. In brushed-stainless finishes, which is the latest trend, scratches are less visible. Also popular are satin bowls with mirrored rims.

Kitchen sinks come in one bowl, two bowl, or three bowl models. The bowls can be deep or shallow. Single bowl sinks are basic, and their depth can vary from 10” to 12”. Two and three bowl sinks allow for multi-tasking. For example, you can rinse or store dishes in the large bowl, and use the small bowl for a garbage disposal or to rinse vegetables.

Stainless steel sinks are available in a variety of price ranges that depend on many factors such as the manufacturer's brand image, the size of the sink, the finish it comes in, and the features it boasts.

As far as your body goes, you'll obviously be burning fat and helping your heart by performing any cardiovascular exercise. The more regularly you do it, the better off you'll be. You'll also sleep better at night and have more energy through the course of each day.

From a mental point of view, when you run, endorphins are hormones that end up being released to the rest of your body. This raises your spirits and will act to naturally make you a happier person.

Some people simply choose not to run because they feel that it requires too much physical effort. They're not entirely wrong, because running can be extremely challenging. As a result, many people simply choose not to do it.

Refraining from the activity altogether is not the answer either. With a little work, you'll be able to figure out how to ace the art of running, and there's a good chance that you'll even look forward to doing it every day.

Try a few of these strategies out and you'll have less difficulty finishing what you set out to start each time you decide to embark on a jog.

First of all, I would always recommend bringing music with you. It becomes so much easier for me to pace myself as I listen to songs, especially when I'm playing songs with high energy that end up motivating me some more. It also generally seems to make the time pass more quickly too.

Another thing to do is to slowly work your way toward improving your speeds and distances. There are a number of different ways you can accomplish this, and we're going to look at two now.

For a start, one thing you can do is to challenge yourself by setting a longer distance each time you go on your runs. If you're really feeling ambitious, you can also attempt to better your speed each time too by increasing your miles per hour if you're on a treadmill by the slightest bit each time, or simply pushing harder if you're running outside.

Quick sprints are also good if you perform them after resting for a few minutes once you've finished your run. They'll take some energy out of you without a doubt, but they'll also make your longer distances at regular speeds seem much more manageable.

African Children Bedrooms

Interior decorators have picked up on the one room that has probably been neglected for years in family homes: the children's bedrooms. Usually when a child gets born the parents make a huge fuss over decorating the nursery. As the child grows up, the room stays the same until adolescence. By this stage the teenager is sick of the Winnie-the-Poos and Disney characters, so he or she decides to decorate the room with posters of rock bands.

In recent years interior decorators have capitalised on the trend to cater to children's needs and have focused on their bedroom décor. Manufacturers have also profited by creating innovative and exciting products that children love. Pink bunk beds, Spider Man duvet covers and a variety of toy chests are just some of the products that can be found at home décor shops. If you are going to decorate your child's room according to a theme, you must ensure that it centres on something that the child enjoys.

A rising décor trend for children's bedrooms is based on an African theme. The theme is inspired by the increased popularity of African dolls. African dolls have been around for many years as a toy for children on the continent. However, due to widespread promotion of the tourism industry across Africa, the dolls have now spread around the world.

There are different types of African dolls from diverse cultures. The Ndebele Lingo Koba doll comes from Zimbabwe. This doll represents a married woman wearing her blanket, known as an nguba. The beaded strands that run down from her face symbolize her tears, called milingakobe. She weeps from joy and sorrow as her son submits himself for initiation to adulthood.

For a child's bedroom you could acquire about five or ten dolls and place them together on a shelf or have them dotted around the room. They can be both a decoration and a toy for the child. Most places that sell the African Doll give a leaflet or pamphlets that explain the doll's meaning and heritage. This provides the parents with an excellent opportunity to incorporate the doll into story time.

Invest in gorgeous rich coloured patterns to paint on the bedroom walls. Many years ago, and still today, Africans used to live in clay huts that they covered in traditional patterns. Each pattern would represent an aspect of a family's heritage or culture. There are plenty of zigzag designs, or waves, which will add an extra dimension to the overall theme. You don't need to be an accomplished artist to paint the designs. All you need is some colourful paint and a brush. If your hand is not steady enough to draw straight lines, use masking tape to help you.

If you have a daughter you might want to find out about African Hair Accessories. There is a wonderful clasp called the African Butterfly, which consists of two slides, some elastic and gorgeous hand painted beads. The African Butterfly can hold all types of hair, long or short, straight or curly. The accessory can also be an attractive piece in a room. By placing a variety of African butterflies in a glass bowl on your daughter's dressing table, you can add the finishing touches to your African themed room.

An African bedroom would not be complete without an African mask. If you have a son, he would enjoy this artefact not only for his wall but also to scare his friends with. Traditional African masks are made out of wood. Each type of mask has its own story explaining the origin of its creation and the history behind its meaning. Some masks are created for rituals such as the celebration of spring or birth. Many masks have incorporated beads and shells into their designs.

Africa is a continent rich in history and potential. The continent is slowly recovering from colonial rule and advancing socially and economically. There are many African themes you could explore for ideas on a bedroom theme. Websites allow you to buy original African pieces, which are delivered straight to your door. Each piece has a story to tell, allowing your child to learn a lot about the mystical African continent.
